victor, warrior,or torker
I got my 455 in the firebird but I just don't see a hood I like to clear the victor intake. I've got a warrior intake, street dominator and a torker I could use once they are port matched. I think the warrior would clear and the other two will for sure. Is there much of a horsepower lose between the these intakes on the street?

If you mean the original torquer flanged for the spread bore, forget it, my volte is for the victor unless you find or have a well reworked warrior.

with a 455 I'd use the street dom ,
depends on heads + cam rpm range ,most likely under 5800 rpms my old 428 ran better with my Torker 2 then the victor and street dom on the street ,throttle responce at low rpms was better . the street dom was best at the track the RPM would be best , for show the Warrior looks trick |

What year Firebird is it?
I have a 69 Firebird with a Victor that I was running last year. It fit under the stock 400 hood. No carb spacer and only a 2" air filter. Low profile air cleaner. I ended up purchasing the Super 400 hood from Spotts and, that gave me about another 2" of clearance. Hope that helps, `joe |

This from the Butler web site:
Drop base shaker hood assembly for use with edelbrock rpm intake OR edelbrock victor that has been milled down .650" for '77 to '79 Trans Ams to locate shaker hood scoop back to stock height http://www.jbp-pontiac.com/featuredProducts.htm I milled my Victor intake down the mentioned 0.650" to fit it under the hood of my '70 Trans Am that has the shaker hood scoop mounted on the hood. It works with a small air cleaner once milled down to reduce the height. This would help on a Firebird if extra clearance is necessary. |

Yep, it fits under a 1st gen FB hood.
The RPM is about a 1/8" or 1/4" taller then a Victor. You can use a 3" filter in a drop down base a/clnr.

Is the "bird in question a 1st or 2nd gen.?
For 2nd gen with shaker: The Victor is 5/8" taller than an RPM, hence the milling of the Victor to adapt the drop-base shaker assembly. The RPM needs no machining with the assembly.

Torker I needs a lot of grinding to be a contender.

It's a 68 firebird. The motor has a decent solid roller cam at 252, 262 at .050 lift with 110 center line and around .575 lift. The heads are flowing 318 at either 600 or 700 lift I don't remember exactly.
I haven't put the hood on yet it just don't look like it will clear. My victor intake is kinda odd, I did some welding and porting on it and a q-jet fits it pretty nice now. I will have to try the hood to see but if it don't it looks like the warrior intake is shorter than the victor. Milling it down sounds like it might be a better way out if clearence is a problem. Thanks for the info. |

Here is some pics of my milled (.650) victor, so i could fit the nitrous plate on. I don't know if it fits under the hood yet. I run an RPM with a 3'' drop base filter now.

My warrior is ported to a set of iron heads, I really hate to cut on it for the eldobrock ports. Cutting down the intake is viable option, I'd really like to run a stock 400 hood on it. If that fiberglass cowl hood was a 3 inch instead of 5 I'd get on of those. 5 is just to tall for the look I'm after. As soon as I get done with the brake upgrade I'm going to work on the hood delima next.

gwhammy, Do u plan on racing your firebird, or just a fast street runner? If its a street runner and you like the seat of your pants feel of the single plane intake than use any of the one u have that will fit under the hood, if you want throttle response and low end torque, which I know the 455 has alot of that use a factory intake or RPM manifold. If you are racing it a fair a mount than test all the intake and see what fits and what gives you the best times.

This is just a street car, I had these parts laying around from some sand rail racing I used to do. I really don't plan on putting any tire on the ragtop that will hook it up. I'm going to try making the victor work as it was ported to the heads. This motor was pretty responsive when I had it in a jeep wrangler for street driving and trail riding, I think any intake will probably be enough I'd just like to keep the victor. Thanks for the replies.

A Warrior does not need all the work some say it does. Some plenum work with a die grinder and sanding rolls. But it does like spacers,it was designed from the start to run a 2" spacer.A little plenum work and a 4 hole 1 inch "Super Sucker" and they work great.A Super Sucker on top of a one inch open spacer and they work even better.
But they are not a top end only intake, they have the bottom end of a 2 plane and still have good top end. My car with the Warrior 60 footed better with better ETs than the Victor and 60 footed the better than a RPM.The Warrior was designed by Pontiac for Pontiacs and is a under rated intake. |
