Header Choice
Ok I went into the threads and could not see any Advice w/ my set-up
Lets start with i have a 66 GTO HT, 1976 400 engine the heads are 6X8 i assume thats a d-port head, the heads do have the ends taped so headers will bolt up,, Need to find someone that has installed, Hooker, Headman, Dougs, Doug Thorleys, What header will bolt in, looking for a no pain Job Reason for headers. just installed new freeze plugs and when my son was tighting the exhausts up the rear exhaust bolt snaped off the flange on the exhaust manifold, Not his fault just old and wanted replaced I hate freeze Plugs Last edited by HaloMedic; 06-15-2008 at 08:53 PM. |

Keep in mind that Doug's is no longer "Doug's" but is now owned by Pertronix... Once again the name "Doug" on header has chnaged hands. Do your homework before buying them now. I am not saying Pertronix is make them differently, but they could be.

Dougs headers fitment
crustysarge I'm having a hell of a time getting my D567 round ports to fit. The #7 tube no way will fit a clutch car. The clutch countershaft hits the #7 tube and in order to get it to fit I would have to dent, weld ( whatever ) at least a 1/2 inch into the top of the tube. this is after I had to move the brake block out of the way. Dougs used to be one of the premire headers but something sure as hell went south. There customer service told me I'm the only one having this problem. Is there any one else out there having my problem? 700 bucks to just throw these in the garbage. I was thinking maybe the wrong headers were in the right box ( I'm grasping now ) but I see these are suppose to fit 65 to 72 cars. If someone else has this problem I'd love to hear from you. Just in case your wondering if I'm a rookie, no, I'm a 31 year machinest.
Like to hear from you cockroach444 |

petronix has owned doug's for years!, also i think there coating is lacking as far as finish is conscerned BUT they are still the best street header for a pontiac available besides Mad Dog headers which IMHO is hands down the best for a custom set at a really good price

Thanks for the in put about Mad Dog Headers. I'm going to go check them out now. I still can't believe I'm the only one on the universe having the problem with the clutch bar.
Thanks again cockroach444 |

Cockroach.....the instructions for the D567 headers clearly state that you MUST use the Z-Bar from a 64-65 car. Part Number is 9776376.
Go to the Doug's Headers web site for more information.
