OIL Pan Clearance...
Has anyone installed an oil pan from
http://www.pro-touringf-body.com/engine.html ? I put one on my '68 400 block and dropped it in my firebird yesterday. The OIL pan is right on top of the cross memeber. - I cant fit a piece of paper in between the pan and the xmember. So I lifted the engine up three inches (I had already buttoned up the bellhousing) and pulled out a motor mount - They look fine to me. I cant remember where I got 'em. However they did say Made in Japan. I cant remember having an issue with the '72 455 and stock pan. My quandry is Motor mounts or pan? If it's the pan - can I slip a 1/4" spacer under the mounts? If the mounts are the coulprit- Where should I get a good quality set? |

If the pan isn't dimpled up front over the x-member it will hit. That pan looks awful smooth on the sides.

The stock factory pan sits real close to the x-member.

I bought a Milodon pan and it did the same thing. I tried to clearance it but finally gave up and switched back to the stock pan.

My stock pan probably has less than 1/8" clearance.
