Just curious if anyone is still watching this thread.
I have read the entire thing with great interest. If anyone wishes I would post the info on my 68 RA I. 56,000 mile survivor.

Bump for The Uno's and Deuce's.
Damn ! I forgot how much trial and error and time we spent getting this stuff nailed down right. Was worth every second of it too !!!! Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 10-13-2011 at 06:02 PM. |

Seen, thus know of an original unrestored, not-for-sale 68 RAII Firebird Conv in the area.

I did a RA1 FB hartop numbers match engine for a guy in VA a few years back - white car red interior 4 speed I think - car being restored I have an old registry some where with RA bird owners floating around here What also makes these cars real special is the 2506 blocks are cast and not stamped like the RAIV, so its tougher to fake these blocks. At least the early cars, the later ones may be stamped

Paul, if the black one is a 4spd with parchment interior it's a mess, but complete.

The new Hemmings Muscle Machines ((Dec 2011) just arrived. Lots of coverage of the Pure Stocks! Rick Mahoney's 68 RAII features prominently. They lined him up against the baddest Camaro of them all; Eric Simpson's 1969 ZL1 427 Camaro.
Rick's RAII ran right with the ZL1, both cranking in the 11.80-11.90 range, and the RAII trapped a full mph more than the ZL1. Rick's RAII has run a best of 11.18 @ 122 mph, Eric's ZL1 an 11.52 @ 118 mph. Of course, as we know, the Pure Stocks aren't truly "pure stock", but.....they all follow the same rules, and it's great to see a 400 Firebird up front with the traditional "big guns" like the ZL1, 440+6, and Hemi cars. Rick did a fantastic job.

Anyone ever hear of an automatic two tone painted '68 RAII Bird?
Car was Agena (possibly Aleutian) Blue with a cameo ivory top (believe to be dealer painted gold) top.

http://www.fastraces.org/fastraces/f...3!OpenDocument There was a thread on the Buick board about Rick's car. There are a lot of ticked off Buick guys that are outraged that a "little 400" could run so fast, so they all accused him of cheating. I'm not sure why they were so upset, but I guess some were ticked off because no one had heard of Rick until a couple years ago, and suddenly he appears, and kicks butt. Jim and Frank Mino's Ram Air II cars dominating way back in the 80's at these Pure Stock events, but perhaps some of the younger Buick racers just got into the Pure Stock thing in the past 10 years, so they aren't aware of the history.
