Default 1976 TAs

I'm looking for some production #'s.

How many 76 TAs with the 400cid came with the Manual trans? And how many with the Automatic trans?

Plus I'm looking for the break down for the 76 TA Limited Edition with the 400cid manual trans and auto trans?

Thumbs up

Everybody always flocks to the 455 4 speeds... but the 400 4 speeds are rarer.

I believe there was only about 15 hp difference between the two which was easily gained with some tuning & a real exhaust system.

All the 400 SEs are supposed to be automatic and all the 455s are 4 spds. I have, however, found one 400 4spd SE but was never able to determine its authenticity. The seller couldn't produce the paperwork

While most of the 400ci cars were backed, by an automatic trans, the '76 S/E T/A was undoubtedly produced with 400ci engine and 4-speed manual transmission. I have several documented examples in my files.

On an aside, the 76' T/A with a 400/4-speed is rare, but I've seen several 400/4-speed Formulas over the years, and even a 400/4-speed Esprit!

There was a '76 400 4speed Esprit for sale up in Wenatchee Washington a couple of years ago.

Here's a 400 4speed Esprit(or base bird) for sale. This might be the car that was for sale in Wenatchee a couple of years ago as it is the same color. This car appears to have Montana or Minnesota(?) plates though.

Rocky:

My TA is an original '76 400/4spd, non-A/C car. Came with a 3.23 posi rear even though it was supposedly available only with the 455 in '76.

Stewart, I know of a few 400 4-speed cars that came that way. Do you know if I have your car's info in my data base?

Hi Rocky. I have never given you anything officially that I can remember but you may have gleamed some info from my sig-line and from a few threads.

About the only non-wear parts that I don't physically have from the engine are the EGR intake and and stock log exhaust manifolds. Everything else I have on the car or stored.

LMK if you want more for your records, since I'm the original owner.

Stewart
