Deal or no Deal?
What do you think about this...
I have a 67 GTO, near to basket case, no title, no engine, no tranny, no interior, but it have all the glasses. I have a spare hood, trunk, and fender to offer with the car, but no front bumper or grills. I was offered this 71 FB, not THAT bad at all, title, non correct pontiac 400 and TH400. Thay guy was asking US$5,000 for the car, I offered him $3,000, said no. For you all to know, in my country there are almost NO GTO's, neither FB's, but there should be 2 FB for each GTO. So both cars are VERY desirable. By the way, I already have 2 66 GTO vert's (THE 2 in my country! ), one in driver condition (soon to enter the long restoration road), and the other one is just a project. I was thinking in offering this guy an exchange, my GTO for his FB, car by car, no money involved... What do you think... Deal or no Deal??? GTO pics on this post, FB pics on the next one. FB comes with title and a non correct Pontiac 400, TH-400. I would really love to have a hardtop GTO, but I think I have two GTO's to finish first, and the 67 will be hard to restore.. two many missing parts I think (no donor cars down here) |

I say wait for a better firebird
It looks like a $1500 - $2,000 firebird around here But then again, that's about what your GTO looks like too GTo might have slightly higher value - depending on what's left If the firebird was a forumula 400 or a trans am, i'd jump on it But a base firebird? Na

You could buy a really nice Formula up here for 10k, put it in a container and ship it down for WAY less than it would cost you to fix that one there!

That's true but.... underchilean laws you cann`t import used cars... that's why we pay that much for these cars as we can not import them.

indeed....
I guess it might be one a few options, then And a '71 firebird is a much better model than 73+ So that's something good going for it

Patox;
I would go straight up trade. The GTO is a more desirable car as said. The Firebird once restored will not command the money the 67 GTO will command restored. Even though the GTO needs more money spent on it, and time it is still a GTO, albeit minus the title. Does the previous owner have any idea where the title is for the 67 GTO?

If there's no title for the GTO, then I'd say it's only worth the parts that are salvageble from it. There'd be no reason in my mind to even attempt to restore it, especially if you can't drive it on the highway legally. Sorry, but that's my honest opinon. No disrespect intended.

Seems like even up would be a good deal for you! I also like the Firebird's honeycomb wheels and the interior color. And how relatively complete it is. The poor old goat looks rougher than a night in a Chilean jail!

I'd swap if no cash was involved since you already have two GTOs.
I'll tell you, that GTO looks like it would really be a tough project to tackle. The Firebird looks like you could at least fire it up and drive it a little in a relatively short time even if it wasn't completely restored.

Thanks to every one for your comments and support.
The title thing is not THAT important as you might see many camaros, olds and similars with chebby nova´s titles (and there are many novas to take titles from)... no one really knows how these cars should look like here (I know it is not correct, but well, it is done!). I know that a Formula o T/A will be great but, if found, those could reach unexpected money for you US people... just to clear my point a 73 T/A restored, is on sale at US$25.000, and I'm not really sure if it is a T/A or a clone. I think I will try to set the deal on the condition note, car by car, no money involved. Will keep you posted! Thanks! Last edited by patox; 02-20-2009 at 10:14 AM. |

Personally I'd keep the GTO but I'm not a big fan of those birds.

Not educated on the "Birds" but if those wheel flares installed on this bird are factory perhaps you have something special here. Dig deeper into exactly what kind of bird is in front of you. Run the PHS for sure.

If that GTO is restorable and you have the funds, Id keep the Goat.

As you said, you've already got two GTO's, and the other one is a complete basket case. I'd go for the trade, no cash involved.
Good luck either way!
