Tranny Temp
Has anyone ever checked the difference in temp between a stock radiator hookup & an external cooler, with & without a fan?

My trany temp with a cooler and no fan is never above 160 to 175 even on a 95 degree day and with a high stall converter, and it took 15 degrees out of the water temp.

A question for those in the know that's related to the topic... is there a prefered minimum temp for the transmission ? It's my understanding 175 to 200 degrees might be considred a norm with maybe 275 degrees a maximum. Crusing around on the open highway and in some stop-and-go traffic the other day my transmission temp stayed at 150 degrees or less. It was 82 degrees out. I have a alum radiator assy with trans cooler in the side tank plus a large 25 row stacked plate design trans cooler. About a 3400 stall Continantal converter, it only has about 200 rpm slip at 70 mph (2300 rpm).
