Default oil filter adapter mis alignment

Getting an oil adapter made like the 1 Spotts used to sell. I used an old filter adapter for lining up the 3 mounting holes and 1 fixed oil hole. Then used a rubbing to locate the other hole. After we made the cad drawing I fitting it to the block to check alignment. We got our hole right but the factory adapter is off. Anyone seen this before?

Some pics may look like dups but trying to show the problem

Alan

BTW anyone interested in an adapter.

probably not uncommon...I have also read that there is the possibility of misalignment where the oil pump bolts to the block. It has been recommended here to use a gasket and match the ports.

What are you trying to do?
A remote filter setup?

Just open the holes some on the adapter, or blend them.
If it's a plate to put some fittings in, the holes could be bigger anyway to get a big fitting in there.

Well John there isn't that much material to play with especially if you are O ringing the block and using 1/2" pipe fittings on the exterior. I was just surprised the factory adapter and block were off that much

Checked the template against my 72YC block and it is off the same which makes me believe that the factory adapters are off. Made in China???

Not a machinist or toolmaker but the fellow that is making it for me is. He made a comment today after he moved the hole on the CAD that the piece now looks like it should. Something about the arcs are all in line now?????? I'll post some pics once he get the piece done.

I think they are all like that-factory and some aftermarket. When I put the remote back on after freshening, I always have to hammer the gasket to fit the oil hole in the adapter with a ball peen. This makes the gasket fit both the block and the adapter. ??? I do not know why the factory gasket does not match up to the remote adapter or the factory block. ????
