Default 550$ to rebuilt complete ac, did i get screwed?

250$ labor
300$parts

Have paid 400$ so far, system is hooked up, new hoses, rebuilt vir with r134 conversion, and getting a new wiring harness because apparently my original is gone and replaced with a non ac car's harness. looks good, but did i get screwed? they said they are not charging me for R134.

The system had been open for a while with cut hoses. so i am asking the knowledgeable Pontiac gurus here, do you think i got screwed? I am leaning toward no, but still a lot of money for a broke college student like myself.

BTW if anyone has a wiring harness for a 76 or applicable, car with AC complete i would be willing to deal. Thanks!!

I'd say you got quite a deal. I spent over $1100 to restore the ac in my '88 Monte SS. This is AFTER I r&r'd the compressor and replaced certain o-rings. The system still wouldn't pull the right numbers and had to have the evaporator replaced, along with the reciever/dryer and the condenser. Then, after all that, the system needed recharging one year later. $550 is a very good price and it'll probably keep you cool for at least ONE summer.

Big bargain. Try just pricing the parts out.

That's cheap, someone likes you. Normally a compressor replacement and flush / recharge is more than that.

Default AC repair

I just priced a rebuilt VIR it is 165.00 and a set of hoses for my 76 are 165.00 These were prices from Old Air Products in Texas. And Paddock wants 220.00 for the hoses. Do you have pictures of the new hoses? Where are you in GA? I am near Chattanooga Tn and need someone to work on my ac that can be trusted to do it right and be fair with the price.

I just did a a customers and had around $600 in my cost in parts only. One word to remember CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Make sure the evaporator in CLEAN. FLUSH it till it is CLEAN. Start with alcohol and finish with MEK. If you are not replacing the condensor do the same. Old hoses can leak it a good idea to replace them. A new drier is a MUST. Not sure if you will be happy with the 134 you might look into Freeze 12 you can get it at Carquest. Hope this is of some help. Probally more info than you asked for.
Walter

Methel Ethel Keytone and yes nitrogen or good clen dry shop air. I have a refrigerated air dryer and three stage filtration system for painting so that works well.

he is doing great work, and everything was working great he said when he charged it the first time. Then overnight he found there was a leak in the back of the compressor. He cant find a kit that makes the seals/gasket or what is there. So we are looking into new compressors etc. Any ideas on that front?

Oh and btw i had my old cut hoses, had new ones built for 50$.

I am located in Statesboro GA, this guy does great work, and isn't charging me any more for these later problems we encountered.
