Default Ball Joint Threads

I need a little help guys. Im rebuilding the front suspension of my 73 Firebird. The threads for the lower press in ball joint grease fitting are messed up.
Dont know how it happened and Ive learned now to check the threads before installing the ball joint.
Anyways....the grease fitting will not thread in at all. It wont even start. Ive tried 4 different zerk fittings, Ive tried tapping the ball joint threads, Ive tried tapping the zerk fitting lightly with a small hammer while turning it, etc. Ive tried using a countersink to remove the lead in thread. Ive got 3 hours in this and its not threading in.
Is there something else I can try before I replace the balljoint?
Everything is powdercoated, painted, and torqued and Id rather not run the risk of scratching the crap out of everything (as would be my luck) replacing the ball joint if I dont have to.

Thanks Guys. I could not have done this frame off without this forum.

Try a self tapping grease fitting.

I actually have the 1/4 28 self tappers. They will not start in the ball joint. I know it sounds weird. The other 3 went in without a problem.

I found some that press in. The end diameter measures 0.255 and if the hole is actually 1/4, they should press in with an interference fit of 0.005. Some time in the freezer to shrink and I may be in business.

We'll see.

Can you somehow hold a fitting in the hole so you can shoot grease in there, then take the fitting out? Might get some dirt in there eventually, but it'll be greased and you wont need to pull everything apart.

If the hole is not to big try runnng a tap into it. You'll get a lot better leverage with a tap holder than the self threaders.

Tried the tap. Couldnt even get it to start. Replaced the ball joint in an hour. Went smoother than I thought.
When I got the balljoint out I flipped it over and the threads were totally boogered and cross threaded.
