Default Switch Repair

Does anyone have any experience in repairing of know of a shop that repairs brake stop light/underhood lamp switches? My original underhood switch is not working and while it appears that 58-60 pontiac brake light switch is a replacement all I can find are plastic reproductions that are not of the same appearance as the metal originals.

A 66' Underhood light Switch.
Which is the same as the 58-60 Stop Light Sw.

Sorry don't have any spares & have never tried to open/repair one.
The re-pop plastic sw's SUC!

Here's a photo of the underhood lamp switch, according to the parts book it's the same as the Pontiac stop light switch 1958-1960. Current reproductions are plastic. I would like to repair this one or find and identical one. I've posed of the 61 and earlier forum.

The application of WD-40 and TIME fixed the non-working switch and solved the issue.

Default wd40 works wonders

Wd40 has fixed alot of switches for me too. The switched are not complex nor difficult to disassemble, but they don't recrimp back together well. I haven't done a switch exactly like the one you show, but many others similar, including the wiper/washer switches. Most simply need a good cleaning or recrimp at the base ground.

axkeebler,
I'm a believer! Took it to a show on the 4th, had to "punch it" once but it came on. I hated to have to take it apart, every replacement on on the net is plastic. So far so good.

I'm currently trying to rejuvenate my door jamb (dome light) switches for my '65 2 + 2. First I tried spraying them full of the aerosol TV tuner cleaner that you can buy at Radio Shack, but that didn't seem to work. I then tried soaking them in isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, then drying them out and they still didn't work. I've now sprayed them full of WD-40 per your advice and am hoping for the best.

These switches obviously were not designed to be disassembled, and I don't see any for sale NOS new, repro, or NOS used anywhere...

Dan, you can get door switches from AMES and I'm sure PY as well for the A Body cars, they show 64-67 as the same P/N, don't have a big car catalogue so can't confim.
