Question Anyone hear of a Mecham TATA before?

Friend of mine says his buddy went to Tennessee to pick up 30th anniv. TA.
Says the seller of the 30th is bigtime bird collector, and had the 1 of 1 Mecham TATA in pristine condition.
Any takes???????????
Oh,supposidly a W72 car with RA IV heads...

I do remember a pic somewhere of the Mecham dealership that showed several Macho T/As parked out in front with a TATA in the middle of them. I don't recall if it appeared modified. If it was it did not have the traditional Macho paint treatment. Seems like the pic was from an HPP article in the late 90's.

I thought I saw one on e-bay over the summer. I think it was an 83 in the boston area. Someone on this site gave me a website that had some info. I can't remember/find it anymore.

Little bit of confusion going on here. Mecham did make a handful of special edtion "Silver Anniversary" Macho T/As, but not on the '79 Tenth Anniversary T/A. The Macho "Silver Anniversary" edition T/As were '78 models. Here's a pic of one.

OK.....I found the car that you are talking about in the Firebird Gallery website. I never thought Mecham built one of these, but here it is. Guess I'll be eating crow rather than turkey today.

According to the website, after the 1979 production run of 96 Macho T/As, Mecham later built one '79 Tenth Anniversary T/A and numbered the car 206, which is out of sequence. The car did not get the Macho Paint treatment, but it did receive the Type E package. Very interesting story. Attached is the weblink. You will have to scroll down to find it.

That's an interesting story on the Mecham TATA. I don't know enough about those. Did the other Mecham's have 5sp, RAIV Head, and HO Intakes as options too?

I bet that's the car, man, you'd think a car that rare and desireable with 16k miles would have been better preserved,I mean that car was over 10k new,big money back then, then the Macho "E" treatment I'm sure was no cheap opt either......
That would get a rotisseri from me for sure(if I had the cash) since the originality is worn thin...

Mecham still makes specialty parts for Firebirds/Trans Am's.

They also keep records of the vehicles they did in the past. So if you find one and want to confirm it, Their website is: http://www.mechamperformance.com/

With reference to the Macho T/A:
Quote:
In 1977, Dennis and Kyle Mecham turned out a limited series of grand touring Trans Ams that they dubbed the "Macho T/A". These cars were sold through their father's Pontiac dealership and moved unhaltingly out the door.

Due to the success of their pilot year, DKM Design, Performance, Inc. was formed in 1978 and the program was expanded to over 200 cars which were made available to other Pontiac Dealers. Another 200+ cars were rolled out during the 1979 model year while the Pontiac 400 engine was still in vogue.

Due to the fuel constraints, Pontiac retired the 400 engine and used a a new turbocharged 301 engine in 1980. Although a package was worked out for this combination, few were sold due to the lack of performance and a general economic decline.

I know the car and ts current owner, It was a continuation car...which means It was not done by mecham when new, it was "done" a year or so later, and last I knew was still not verified, but he was working on it as paperwork on one of these cars is everything. The number was not a consecutive 79 number either, If memory serves it was numbered 79 # 208.
