Of course you could always get some 225/70x15's....we put a set of BFG's on a friends car and they look really good....very period "correct" and the right height.

The factory tire on a '70- '72 TA was an F60 x 15 (7" wide wheel). The closest metric equivalent to that would be a 235/60x15. See Tire Rack link below:

Here are a couple of good views of the Goodyears on my 70 JW's. Front 235/60/15, Rear 255/60/15. I LIKE IT...But the rear will be coming down a bit over the winter when I put the new leafs in...I HOPE!

Tazzz,
You would really like this car. It sports a 70 RAIII block with lots of work done to it, Butler prepared aluminum heads, original (correct) ram air setup, hooker headers with 3 inch exhaust and an X-pipe, Richmond 5 speed trans with the original 12 bolt (3.55's I think), and lots of suspension work as well as 4 wheel discs. I bet it would be a blast at the dragon! |

Ah now your just teasing me LOL...... I take it you'll be up for a little grudge match up the Dragon in the fall at the "Run Through The Hills" ;-)..... Sounds like way to much fun to drive my friend and your 100% right the mods are in keeping with the sort of handling improvements I love making on my own early birds.... I'll bet with that 3" inch main you can really spin that motor up and have a blast in the turns....

I took some pics of the formula yesterday. It is slow going, but at least they are working on it again. I took the fender bolts and shims to them and they hung the fenders. These pics show the body line on the drivers side. It looks pretty good, although the body line is too sharp right now. The body man said he will smooth it out in the next blocking. The passenger side will need some additional body work where the fender meets the top of the door and he will be working on that this week.

this was a great read!
Regaurding the tire debate, iirc (I didn't click any of hte links) the 235/60/15 is hte closeste to section and height as the original F60/15, but the 245 is closer to the correct tire patch... I have run 235's, 245's, and 255's; I liked the 255's the most, but they're a smidge too big for the OE ralley wheels. IMHO, the 245/60/15 is the best tire - is is only marginally taller than the F60/15 (not enough to make a significant speedo error, but a wide enough tire patch, that it looks right... I liked the 245's enough (actually they're a rarely ordered tire size btw) that after seeing 245/60/14's on an early Firebird some years ago, I bought a set for my '73 Formula...

The second blocking is done and the painter will prime it again this week, then wet sand it. He still needs to strip and prep the hood, front bumper and rear plastic body panel but it's getting closer. He bought the paint a few days ago so hopefully he will putting color on it soon.

In an effort to push this project along I brought some of the small parts (like the mirrors and side marker light bezels) home to sandblast them. The park light fillers are plastic and I didn't want to damage them so I turned the pressure down on the compressed air to my blast cabinet and hit the with the blaster. There is a "67" written on one of the fillers. Interesting, since my car is paint code 67. But why would this be under the paint?
