A couple more questions...

1. Does anyone have a scoop-off low mileage W-72 engine pic?

2. The strap from the air cleaner ducting over to the fender...who is reproing that? Norwood?

3. Carb return spring color?

4. TATA WS-6 brake booster source. I have a guy that will disassemble the one I have and also a guy to re-cad it. But, would rather buy a new or remanned correct appearing one.

5. Lastly...what style floor mats came with the TATA? I need the correct mats..whatever they were. Carpeted? Rubber?

Thanks...its slowly coming together.. I should be reassembling the engine bay this week.

The last I heard the strap from the ductwork to the fender was made from unobtainium. The floormats are rubber with the GM logo on them. They are reproed and available from transamdepot.com. My return springs appear to be natural in color but with 30k on it they may well have lost the color.

The air duct bracket is reproduced. PY might have them, or some of the other Pontiac parts dealers. Here's one on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

1quikta, here's a link that may answer some of your questions.

www.1979tata.com

untouched 3,800 mile car.

I'm not sure what strap you are talking about?

Let me know after reviewing this site if you have some more questions. I may have specific pictures to help more.

Firewall/Cowl question.

Just today I noticed pretty good evidence that the top of the cowl was originally painted med to light gray. In removing the cowl mounted hood seal ends it was completely gray underneath. Even inside the cowl in the wiper arm area its the same gray.

Under these seals, was this an area that did not receive both gray and black paint and the gray is a primer? or did the top of the cowl have both black and gray areas?

I am pretty sure the Firewall is all black. At least all the low mileage cars are.

Thanks!

I believe the gray area on the cowl is overspray from the dash paint. The cowl and firewall are painted black, however when the dash is painted the interior color tends to overspray onto the cowl.

The windsheild sealant is on top of it so that would jive. I will see if it matches the dash area.

Is the radio bezel supposed to be lighter than the dash or the same color as the dash? always hard to tell in pictures of a tata because color match was not that good on these cars new. Some photos they look like an exact match to the dash color and others it looks lighter.

Slowly getting her done a little at a time. Its a 400 PWH 4-speed car. I bought it with out the motor. I was able to buy the numbers matching motor later. I have the subframe done with new everything. Just got the motor done and new gaskets in the super T10. The car has 67,000 but it spent some time in Texas and the iterior was burnt. The body is going to the Media blaster next.

I finished the car enough to make the Ban One show at Summit racing. Here are a few pics. Still have more interior work left headliner, pkg tray and front seat foam.

Believe it or not there were 25 cars in the stock 2nd gen class. It was a great turnout. The bandit run guys sure helped the car count.

You will have to order a white headliner. Then die it with the light gray SEM plastic and vinyl die.

Good luck.

This is my 79 TATA after I bought it. It was buried in a field under 6' tall horseweeds.

This is after I brought it back home from the body shop last week.

It's a 400/4speed. The trunk floor, rear deck, floor pans and dash were all replaced. The hood, fenders and doors were just installed for transport. There's alot left to do but all of the cutting, welding and rust repair is finished. I'm going to do some work myself this summer and then take it back to the body shop in the fall.

Does anyone have the paint code for the top of the dash? Is the VIN painted the dash color or should it be black?

Here is my 403 car. The engine is original but someone put a TH400 in it, the carb is gone and the engine won't turn. The interior is trashed. The body isn't too bad but the passenger side quarter was replaced at some point and the tail panel and rear of the quarter don't line up with the tail light properly. It has also rusted through behind the passenger door. So it's basically a big ol' pile lol. But it is a TATA. If I fix it, it'll get modified and painted black, or if I come across a good deal on a better 79 I'll sell this one.
