69 Tail Lights - Giving Me Problems...
Fella's:
Gotta situation where the tail lights, rear brake lights, and rear blinkers work fine when the light switch is off. But turn the lights on (either parking or head) and it gets strange. Drivers Side - Inner brakes work , outter does not (outter goes out) Pass Side - Outter brakes work, inner does not (Inner goes out) Blinkers alternate between inner/outter...that normal? New to having a '69..not sure what is correct. Any help would be appreciated...thanks. Dan |

The ground wires on the 69 tail lights were not the best. A lot of us have added extra ground wires to fix this problem. My guess is this is your problem. Jim

Another vote for a bad ground.

I had similar problems with my '69's Tail Lights and added an extra ground to each. I ran one end of a ground wire with ring connector onto one of the metal bezel (Bezel that the Plastic Tail Light housing attaches against) threaded studs and the other end of the ground wire up to a screw which goes through the side of the trunk lock docking mechanism which is between the 2 Tail Lights - hope this makes sense. I did this for both Tail Lights and it solved my problems. Good Luck!

'69 Tailights
My friend who also has a '69 just got new tailight bezels. The bezels were the plastic ones. He had to add extra grounds wires to his also. I've just started the restoration of ours. So I'm not that far yet.

I have the plastic bezels and ran a ground to all the lights , grounding it out on the metal screw that holds the gas tank "U' tube vent at the lock latch point in the middle back of the trunk.
Works super! |

If you are using the plastic bezels I have found if you rat tail the mounting holes to remove the paint (where the stud passes through) and move the bezel to one side, it will create a good ground. The stud is touching bare metal. This eliminates the unsightly routing of extra wires. Also The Parts Place make a great reproduction of hte 69 ground straps. I did this on a couple of cars with great results. Hope this helpls.
