Hi Bill, I too wanted to keep the stockish height tires on my Year One 17's. I used 275/50/17 (27.8") on the rear and 255/50/17 (27.0") on the front. I posted a pic of my car and tires used in this thread.

The Falken tires are really nice and deliver excellent handling on dry roads. I haven't driven the car on wet roads with them, so I don't have first hand experience. I did read a lot of reviews on these tires and most people really like them.

Nitto also makes tires in these sizes and a few other manufacturers make the 255s, but not the 275's, if you wanted a more familiar brand.

If you stay with your 15's, the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's are the best raised white letter tires available in my opinion. I have both the BFGoodrich Radial TA and the Firehawks and the BFG's are okay, but the Firehawks run truer and handle better.

one suggestion. There is a BF Goodrich G-Force Sport available in 225/60-15. This would be pretty much the tire I am loking for if it was available wider... modern preformance summer tire

IF 225s were stock... wouldn't that work pretty decent?

I think most people want a wider tire than the stock 225's. And the 225-60r-15 is pretty short at 25.6". Original was 225-70r-15 which is 27.3". So the 225-60r-15 is over an inch and a half shorter than the stock tire.

The nice thing about the 255-60r-15 is that it's 27.1", so it's wider and still practically the same height as the original size.

This is a good chart for checking tire dimensions: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....l=Radial+T%2FA

Sorry for hijacking this...
I am aware most would like wider. I currently have 235/60-15 on my 15x8 rims. Still looks nice - I think.

just looking from a performance point (going around turns, braking...) of view. Wouldn't the much more modern tire overcompensate for the slight loss in width?

And the short sidewall should help going around turns!

That's part of the beauty of the 17's. You get to keep the original tire size but have a shorter sidewall with a much wider tread. It is a win-win situation in my opinion.

235-60 is not bad. There is such a thing as being too small of a tire though, no matter how modern. A 225-60 is so short it would look funny on these cars.
Get some Firehawks in a decent size and it will feel like you're riding on rails . Firestone has used a modern construction with the Indy 500, along with the classic rwl look.

And this link works better for the tire size/specs chart: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....irePageLocQty=
