I also had a look at the old shoes (kept 'm) they looked burned, also the notches where the anchor pin goes and adjuster had been trimmed down a fair bit. It seems some previous owner has had the same problem i'm having now.

Driving back home I came up with the idea of identifying the rear axle, probably shouldn't have assumed it was a BOP 8.2 10 bolt straight away..
[edit] just did a search and it turns out it's an 8.5.. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles...0_bolt/id.html by the looks of it..

Well I guess the emergency brake cables aren't stuck after all. And someone before had filed the previous shoes down to make them fit too..............................

Someone somewhere along the line has put parts in there that aren't common to the car their installed in. Something simple turns into a mystery and now some detective work as to what parts the former owner used. I don't feel foolish now or did I ever for my suggestions after the facts come to light.

I certainly appreciate your input (along with everyone else's) so thanks for that. Nor do I see any reason why you should feel foolish about anything posted.
