We're in the same boat. We're wanting a mid-size SUV that can haul around the occasional extra kids (we have 2) as well.

I've been looking into an Explorer/Mountaineer for that reason. There just aren't many mid-size with the 3rd row option. I think that 4Runner's have an option for the 3rd row, Honda Pilot too, I think.

That's what roof racks are for.

Kind of off topic here but,
I know of at least two places that someone has turned their door yard into a Volvo 'musium', and they are 800 miles apart. One in Mount Airy, GA, and another in New Buffalo, MI.
Uncanny simmilarities between them. Both are just house lots, not any salvage yard or repair shop. Dozens of Volvos from the late 70's up, parked all over the property. Most of them don't seem to have body damage or rust that you can see from the road.
I'm assuming all just dead drive trains.

Well, you guys can enjoy your asian "rice cakes", I'll stick with my well styled, safety designed Volvo's. Sorry, I still think Camry's and Accords are boring. Just like the dozens and dozens of red and silver ones that cover the parking lots. They all look pretty much alike and that spells boredom to me.

It's also interesting to note that there's a vehicle out there that has covered well over a million miles and sorry but it's not a Toyota or a Honda.

Volvo's, Camry's and Accords are boring.... which is why I drive an '05 GTO. For the most part... I could really care less about safety and fuel economy.

Dodge Durango's have a 3rd row seat.

Yes they do, but I've never been much of a Dodge fan. Plus I think they sit way too high, like almost everything Dodge makes.

I do like Cherokee's though, but you can't get them with a 3rd row. Commanders are too big for my taste.

There'sa Chevy I drove a few months back as a rental. A hybrid SUV (is that what they are called now when they are somewhere between a Mini-van and an SUV). The Traverse. It was roomy. My kids loved the back seat. And it got very good gas mileage, better than my minivan. And if I am not mistaken, it had the ability to go into four wheel drive.

And there is also the Mazda CX9 which I drove a couple of years back. It as awesome and had the four wheel drive and was roomy and it was comfortable as all get out. If I hadn't already had the mini-van, I would have wanted one badly.
