I really like this car, the silver looks good. I'd probably put a LeMans hood on it with a cutout though. I'd love to put a blower on my car, although I probably wouldn't need the extra HP, but it would still be cool. For some reason I love all the hood stuff and the butterfly air scoops.

Another cool blower car:

Default My 69

Well, I'm getting closer. Sort of proud of this considering it's my first ever attempt at a paint job, I did it in my garage, and it's black.

Wow. That looks fantastic! Wish I had the skills to paint like that and the nerve to try it in my garage.

Well, I'd be the last person to claim to have "skills"... What I've learned through this process is that there's not much that you can't correct with just a little more time and effort. What you see in the photos isn't what it looked like just after I finished spraying it. It had more than just a few specs of dust in it, there were some runs, and there were spots with moderate to "more than moderate" orange peel. Each of those issues I had to deal with, then finish up by sanding the whole car with 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, then 3000 grit followed by buffing with 3 different compounds.

And, for everything I did, it was the very first time I've ever done it. So, the moral of the story is that if I can do it, probably anyone could.

(But thanks for the kind words)

By hand, wet, using a Durablock or similar I assume?
The fact that you've never done it before makes it even more impressive...and one of the toughest colors to get right.

"Mostly" using a 3/32" stroke Dynabrade RO sander, but the spots either where it wouldn't reach, or were "too close" to a body line, edge, or other spot where I was concerned about burning through the paint I did by hand. I learned more and got better at it as I went along. I'm sure there are isolated spots I'll have to revisit once I get it out into the sun and can really "see" it, but for the most part it's done.

I've been told before by a good painter that if you can color sand and buff, you can paint. If I knew of a paintbooth I could rent time in, I might be tempted to try it. Might look into that.

I would have liked to have been able to find a booth myself --- I wound up just having to do it in my garage with some rigged up box fans. I had to deal with more dust/trash in the clear than I might have had to with a booth, and that cost me some time and effort, but it sure was a confidence builder to get it done.

I can spray one shot of Rustoleum in the garage...enough to cover a postage stamp on one side...and I will get.."WHAT is that SMELL?..
So I know I'm not painting a car in the garage.
Primer, I'll do outside but I don't want to try topcoating out there.

Car came out really nice! I'll be doing the same thing in a couple of weeks, but it will be my first tri-coat on anything as big as a car (motorcycles don't count) so in that regard, it will be a new experience for me, too. I am fortunate in the fact that a friend of mine has a body shop and will let me use his booth.good luck with your project. When do you think you'll have it on the road?
