Default What solution to use in ultrasonic cleaner?

I purchased a 3 gallon heated ultrasonic cleaner at a university surplus auction. I want to use it to clean the carburetors and other small car parts I have. What kind of solution would work the best for cleaning carbs?

I have a 7 gallon model, and use about half a cup of purple degreaser and a couple tablespoons of Dawn dish soap in it, works perfectly.

Do NOT use a lot of floor cleaner, degreaser, or Simple Green, etc. They can react with aluminum parts and blacken them some. Just a small amount works fine.....Cliff

Recently picked one up and can't wait to use it. Good info on what to add with the DI water, been looking into that. Tank is around 2ft cube (about 60 gallon). It's a Blue Wave 2000W 30KHz. Should get the job done I think.

when I was in college ( for NDT) we used VMP solvent in it , yes its flamamable but thats what was recommended , it had a layer of tall oil over the top to keep it from fuming off . we had another one that had Meth chloride in it , and you had to wear a resperator with that one , but the parts came out spotless and dry and didn't hurt non ferrous parts

Never use anything flammable!
Here is a simple FAQ page
http://www.coleparmer.com/techinfo/t...faq.htm&ID=792

They also will send you a free 8oz sample of Micro-Clean solution. The nice thing is a little goes a long way.

feid that was 30 years ago , and in some industrys thats still the standard , I would prefer a aqueous solution over anything we used in the past . primarly because of the fog it creates over the machine and its explosion hazard.

I use ultrasonics everyday to clean injection molds. We use a water based solvent safe for alum no residue. It is from a company called Brulin it is their formula 815 GD.

When I worked and C-P in the 90's someone used gasoline in their ultrasonic cleaner and called to lay blame when their shop blew up.
BTW, Micro-Clean has ammonia in it, so it may not be safe for everything.

notice the ph content too high for aluminum (9.4) kind of on the alkalinic side . the stuff at the bottom of the page looks perfect .

that was just plain stupid , the VMP has a high flash point its more on the combustable side of things than flammable , I consider any liquid that can burn flammable .
