Default How To Test An Antenna Cable?

Hello Everyone,

I have a '69 GTO with the factory trunk mounted power antenna. I am just wondering how I can functionally test the coaxial antenna cable that goes between the radio and the power antenna. I am getting no signal through with the one that is in the car now and I have an extra one I would like to test before mounting it in the car.

Thanks!

Use an ohmmeter on the center conductor from each end. same with the outside shield. You may need to increase the length of the ohmmeter leads with some long jumpers.

I would also check between the center conductor and shield to make sure no shorts

Those do go bad from age. If there has ever been any moisture laying in the truck the ends can corrode in-between the inner and the outer black shielding.

To recap what was said above;
Center pin of one end to center pin of other end should be 0 or close to 0 resistance
Outer shield of one end to outer sheild of the other end should also be 0 or close to it.
Outer shield of either end to center pin of either end should be infinite resistance or 'no connection'..

Thanks kindly everyone for your excellent instructions. I will be testing my extra cable shortly and crossing my fingers that it tests out okay.

Best regards,
Les
