Default Idle Stop Solenoid source?

My GTO has a RAIII motor with a RAIV cam and I suspect the lack of an ISS may be the cause of the dieseling I experience on shut down. I still need to check the timing, but the wiring harness has the connector so adding an ISS would be easy if I can track down the solenoid and bracket.

In searching the board I see it's debated as to what cars came with an ISS and while they do pop up on ebay from time to time, it sounds like they are fairly pricey. I see PY sells the bracket (RPE233A), but is there an aftermarket supplier for the solenoid itself (Aames has one listed in the catalog, but it's discontinued)? NOS is not a must - I would be willing to use anything that works and doesn't look too out of place.

Thanks BLAKGOAT - is that the same one you purchased?

Other than the fact the connector would point downwards, it does look identical (see attached image borrowed from another thread on the board), but I just want to make sure someone has used this before I spend the money on it (ie. does it have the correct geometry and mount up to the Pontiac bracket ok).

Whats the correct part number you need?

I have half a dozen or so of these and some are NOS.

Hi Jeff. I'm not certain but I believe it should be DR1114423 according to these threads:

http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...id+part+number
http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...le+solenoid+PN

If you have one, let me know what you'd like for it

These guys sell them. I bought one for my GTO, $95.00, off EBay a couple of months back. I haven't installed it, so I can't say how good it works. You will still need to buy the bracket from PY. I bought the mounting bolts from from Inline Tube.

Thanks for the lead on AAAA. I saw this one for a Pontiac 70 - 72 : http://www.aaaaautomotive.com/Shop/C...id/0/SFV/32785

I called to check inventory updates and was told if its in stock its listed on the website list.

They bought a large collection of parts recently they are still going through.

BTY, I was told parts are being sold by the "truck load" right now (by out of business shops and collectors getting out) so keep checking back as they add more parts.

I saw that company while searching, but the solenoid they had pictured isn't correct:
http://www.aaaaautomotive.com/Shop/C...id/0/SFV/32785

...did you get the right one, or the one pictured on their site?

I already have the RPE233A bracket ordered from PY and will probably pick up the correct bolts (PN 1NL11023) from Inline tube as well

NOS 68 69 70 71 72 TRANS AM GTO JUDGE IDLE STOP SOLENOID
Invoice Number: 11854715
Sku Number: CS-7
Price: $95.00

If you want, pm your email to me. I will send a photo. It looks original, nothing like the one they showed you. Hopefully they still have them. I wouldn't mind having a extra.
"NAPA on line" had some last Winter, but I just checked, out of luck there. They wern't quite right anyways.

I just checked AAAA's web site. It doesn't look good for the solenoid.
Good luck.

looks very close to the original.

Talking to that seller, they sell another solenoid with the proper clocking on the connection:

MOPAR 1969 1/2 440 SIX PACK IDLE SOLENOID NEW

....but the body & bracket positioning on the one you noted appears more accurate (note the round head rather than a hex head - sounds like the seller will swap this if requested though):

MOPAR 1970 1971 340, 440 & SIX PACK IDLE SOLENOID NEW

Original Pontiac solenoid for reference:

Thanks Kevin and BLAKGOAT,

Looks close enough for me, think I will buy one for a spare in case the "correct" one
doesn't show up.

Thanks,

I saw a couple that style, but they don't have the little bracket that is attached to the main body like the Pontiac version does.

If Jeff does have any kicking around, I'll probably just buy one of the ebay ones.

I have an NOS marked DR-1997405 wich I think is a GM replacement wo/rubber where the wire goes into the switch.

I received the last of the parts today and installed the ebay MOPAR ISS. I had to file a very minor amount off one of the holes on the ISS bracket for the bolts to line up, but other than that it fits/looks/works well. The solenoid doesn't line up that great (only about half the head touches), but it works.

I also disassembled the solenoid so I could modify the position of the connection to more closely match the appearance of a Pontiac solenoid. The same seller on ebay sells another MOPAR ISS ('69 rather than '70) with the connection clocked towards the passenger side, but I didn't want to take the risk of it not working as far as geometry goes (although I'm sure it would looking a the pics). BLKGOAT did the same thing so I knew this solenoid would work.

I've attached a couple pics for reference in case anyone is interested.
