Default Crower 60243 cam degreeing

I'm getting ready to install and curious what other have done to degree this cam. I'm running the Edelbrock timing chain set that has 3 keyways. Straight up or 4 degrees each way. Thanks, Bill

Always start with the timing chainset "dot to dot" the first time you check it (0° adv/ret).

Then after that move on to any advancing and retarding that may (or may not) need to be done.

There's probably nothing more aggravating than installing it advanced or retarded expecting it to be in a certain place, only to come to find out it would've been correct installed @ dot to dot to begin with.

LOL

With no exceptions, all of the 60243 cams I've installed needed 4-6 degrees advance to get them to 108ICL, or close to it. In this particular case, you might want to start at +4, and may not have to move it at all.

With most other cams, SC is correct, we always start "dot to dot".....Cliff

Cliff is correct. No matter how many times I have told Crower. They either don't listen or flat out do not care. It is not hard to get them right at the factory. Isky can do it! Why can't Crower?
I can almost assure you it will have to go 4 advance.
My personal opinion of Crower is I WILL NEVER BUY FROM THEM AGAIN.

More often than not,at least for me,it's the timing sets that seem to be the problem lately.

Couple that deal with cams that are like ^^^^ these guys describe, and degreeing cams can become quite an excersize in testing ones patience.

But practice does make perfect, and after degreeing a few cams, you'll will be an expert compared to most other hotrodders out there.

FWIW

"No matter how many times I have told Crower. They either don't listen or flat out do not care."

+1

As good as some of their components are, they have about the worst customer service in that industry.

I can get a custrom ground roller cam, from Comp, in a couple of days. It takes me a couple of days (usually longer) just to get a live person on the phone at Crower!.....Cliff

Just an update, I tried relying on my 3 way crank gear for accuracy, it advanced it 8 degrees in the advance key slot (edelbrock chain set). I tried doing this without a degree wheel and was just pi$$ing in the wind. I'll never trust those again, i'll always double check with a degree wheel.

I got a degree wheel and it checked in at 112 straight up and I got a 2 degree key for the cam and got it dialed in to 108 like what the cam card listed. Thanks to Cliff R for the pm's replies and now I need to get this back to the track and see what it will do. I did slot the heads for the bigger rocker ratio when it was apart but havn't got them yet.

Here's a better video of how it runs.
