I talked to her today and I was the one who proved to her that it was the wrong engine....She seems like a really nice person to be honest.

I think most corvette owners would pay not to have those docs released. Every year there are more and more 435 documented vettes on the road.

I just bought another round port Ram Air car Greg, unfortunately, the production numbers are a little high on this one for it to be part of my collection.

I didnt think you were going to buy anymore you couldnt make money on?

If it were me.....I'd take that money off your last sale and get your driveway paved.

Its really hard to sell a six figure car sitting on "crush and run rock!....lol

I am in no hurry and can wait....still more out there and prices will keep on dropping!

Yes, Don....She was nice.

She had a lot of memories in the car and didnt want it to be flipped, but go to a person who appreciated it, would drive it.

Her email from 7PM last night indicated she knew it was SR.

Lol....thats a "good" one...ask anyone who knows me and how much money I waste on toys!

Again, I have some empathy for other PY members who may have been bidding....so didnt need a PHS (?)

Why waste my time, plenty more coming down the pike! Tick Tock....Tick Tock!

Now, go get that driveway paved!

Too much heavy equipment going in and out of here from time to time to pave my driveway. Get that harness straightened out? She could sell the car to just about anybody on here-and would never have to worry about the car getting restored-or running again for that matter. As soon as I found out it has a SR block-I was done. 70s arent bringing the $$$$$$. Boss- I loved your answer about the production numbers-I am still laughing.

I would have been on here a lot earlier, but did not know the car was being put up for sale. If anyone is interested in the cars history - this is kinda like Paul Harvey and his "Rest of the Story".

Her(Tiff) step dad was not the original owner, I ordered the car from Cox Pontiac in Lawton, Ok and took delivery on Thanksgiving in 1969 from Wayne Cox. The car was built in Texas and came with three G70 tiger paws, and one F70, oops.

It is not a numbers matching car, the block and one head was replaced by Cox Pontiac at around 50,000 miles. One of several times under warranty the dealer was replacing broken valve springs, I just happened to be standing at the parts counter when the mechanic came in and wanted a new pushrod to replace the one he bent adjusting the valves. You all probably know what happened next, valve head on top of the piston at high rpm ain't pretty even back then. Think by me seeing the bent pushrod is probably the only reason Pontiac replaced the engine under warranty.

The car didn't see much use by me for 3 or 4 years before I got married, and since the wife had a new car and I had a new pickup, we sold it to her step father, Tommy Hawthorne, the man I called best friend. The Judge sat in his garage for years and driven a few times a year, another thing I remember is that he used the trunk as his tool box. The big dings in the body and door I did not do, drilling holes in the console to mount guages, yes. Cutting on the dash to install an aftermarket radio, no. Her step father sold the car to another man in Lawton and then bought it back after something like 6 or 7 months.

As with any of us that owned cars from that era, the are many, many stories that could be told, drag races, drinking(and spilling) beer and driving, lighting and throwing pop bottle rockets out of the car, etc.

I wish the new owner in Dallas the best with his purchase. As we all know, time and lots and lots of money will fix just about any old Pontiac.

And I still have GTO's

Great story Jim.
Thanks for coming on here and sharing some history with us.

The original owner line in the auction did seem embellished.
Usually someone in the family Knows for sure if they were - not Thinks that maybe they were. I'm sure most took that with a sip of water.

Did you know about Mr Hawthorne's death when it took place ?
Were you guys still best/good friends up to his final days ?
I guess they never asked if you would like a chance to own it again ?

Would you have made a strong play at buying it back ?

Are there too many question marks in this post ? (sorry about that)

Baron: not too many questions at all.

Yes we were still good friends and our houses are about 2 miles apart in the country.

And no, we were not asked if we would like a chance to bid.

Would like to have bid, but that's all water under the bridge now.

Johnta1: Yes it is a RAIV.
No, right off hand I don't have dealer info. If I can find it, I still have the original window sticker, I came across it year or so ago looking for something else, now if I could just remember where I saw it. Maybe the dealer info will be on it.
