1977 Grand Prix info needed
I saw a guy in Dunkin Donuts with a very rusty 77 GP with snowflake wheels. I was interested in getting this type of wheels to fit a 1983 Grand Prix. I asked him if he had/knew of any more. He said make him an offer on those. I was not sure if they were the 4 3/4 bolt pattern I would need plus he wanted some replacement wheels in the deal. Then he told me make him an offer for the whole car. The ?'s I have are, will the rims fit a 83 GP, do all 1977's have 400 engines, if not what is the easiest way to tell if it is a 400, and if it is a good 400 what is (a ball-park figure) an Ohio rusted out 1977 GP worth. I don't want to go see it till I know some prices and info. Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken,
Having owned a bunch of 73-77 GPs, and a 78 GP, a few 79 Grand Ams, and most recently, an 80 LeMans, I can tell you that yes, the 77 snowflakes are 4 3/4" bolt pattern. As for engines, a 77 GP could have a 301, 350, or 400 Pontiac engine, a 350 or 403 Oldmobile, and possibly a 350 Buick engine. GM was playing 'musical engines' starting in 77 (which earned them many lawsuits), meaning they started calling them "corporate" engines. Many had 400s, look for a 'Z' in the VIN. They are ok engines, but Pontiac put lighter crankshafts in them. Without seeing the car, or taking into consideration, the options, interior condition, and mechanical condition, it is hard to offer a value. But a rusty GP, especially a 77 (highest production year of the 73-77 models), is probably $500.00-900.00 ballpark. The snowflake wheels are fairly common (available on all Firebirds, GPs, and LeMans, and all are 4 3/4" bolt pattern), used from 77-83 or so in 14" and 15" (77 GP should be 15s). Hope this helps, -Dave

Car'll salvage on weight alone @ 600.00.
Wheels are small bolt GM's. The 8's will rub the fenderwells on an 80's G body with 235 60's. Car could have any V-8 GM produced in 77 including a Chevy.

Brad. I just sold a dumpster of chopped up cars for 300.00 per ton. Got another one back to fill up also. They're paying the same for Clean Cast as they are for sheetmetal. Someone wants it!

I'm guessing it's who you deal with. I sent a bunch of F series parts trucks off to the crusher early this summer for $230/ton
