starting issues
We have a 67 Lemans with the 326 and hydro tranny. It has a freshly rebuilt Carter 4 barrel carb. It is very stubborn to start in the morning, like it has no fuel in the carb. It takes several pumps of the pedal to get it to pop. Once it is running and warmed up it fires just fine but it seems to repeat this every morning. My son drives it to school and we have this problem everyday and it will only get worse as the colder season approaches. I am used to a car which fires right away and I am not sure where to start with this.

Make sure the choke is properly adjusted and if you have the original stove pipe design see if it is heating up

This sounds like you are repriming the carb with gas before the engine will fire. It is very possible the needle and seat in the carb is allowing the carb bowl to drain. Once the engine has turned over enough to refill the carb bowl the car will start. A further problem could be your fuel pump which can also cause these same type of problems in needing to reprime your fuel system.

i'm no expert.
on mine, the carb drains out. i turn it over a few times to get gas back in there, before i pump it. then i pump it a couple of times. then i turn it over again and it fires. if the carb is empty pumping wont do anything. turn the engine a few times, then pump it, then turn it over again. |
