Could the Chevy Volt be another Cadillac 4-6-8
for GM. NHTSA said in a statement that the fire happened more than three weeks after the Volt was subjected to a side-impact test -- one where it was smashed into a pole at 20 mph.

The 4-6-8 is alive and well in new GM Trucks with "fuel management" These will run in 4 cylinder mode on the highway.
Li batteries are kick ass for weight and power, and take major abuse and still work.. Dewalt proves this everyday

My Dodge Magnum RT also drops to 4 cylinders on the highway too and can get 24 MPGs @ 65-70. You don't even feel it happen.

It does say that correct procedures where not followed after the crash.

The agency asked every automaker which either has an EV for sale or plans to bring one to market -- including General Motors, Nissan, Ford, Toyota and others -- to explain their procedures for disposing of batteries following a crash, and for tips that might avoid fires or other dangers for tow-truck operators, first responders and anyone else who works with crashed vehicles.
"NHTSA does not believe the Volt or other electric vehicles are at a greater risk of fire than gasoline-powered vehicles," the agency said in a statement. "It is common sense that different designs of electric vehicles will require different safety standards and precautions." GM spokesman Greg Martin said the company and NHTSA investigated the fire and attempted to recreate it, but were unable to, and that no other crash-tested Volts have caught fire.

Volts or any electric or hybrid = I'd be much more concerned with being electrocuted than fire.
EMT's go threw special training for these vehicles.

Tom Vaught ps I came close to dying while driving a Cadillac with a 4-6-8 engine on Ford's test track (many years ago) when the Cadillac was not as refined. (Brake System)

Most people, when provided the factual information would have admitted they were wrong. But no, you just pretend that 14 million vehicles were never recalled and there were never any fires... |

Factual information would have contained the year in that posting; you're contradicting yourself. Again. Better yet, bring that Caprice with the 8 ft bed to a Ford truck event and run your big alligator mouth -

Not to belabor the point but the famous Ford catch on fire in the garage problem was an electrical problem related to the brake switch that deteriorated due to brake fluid seeping in the switch and shorting it out. I'm just saying.....
