painting a bus
im facilities manager for a church and i need to paint a 77 passenger bus white in the next couple days. i want a good job for the least money. what do you think about alkyd enamal. tsc has a tractor truck and implement paint with matching reducer and hardener. about $51 incl. chemicals. but i can get trinity acrylic enamal for $65 inc chems. i figure 4 gallons so $204 vs. $260. need to decide and get on with it they need it for summer camps and events.

You will have much better UV resistance (gloss retention) with the acrylic/hardener vs the alkyd/ hardener.

In the 80's I painted a church bus (school bus size) and it took 8 or 9 gallons of Centari acrylic enamel. It held up well.

I agree. The tractor paint will get dry and chalky due to the sun.

Over the last few weeks I watched a local church paint their bus in some kind of camoflage scheme. Three different maskings and many volenteers.
