Default attn ventura guys

Hi, Im waist deep in this gto project but ran across a 72 ventura sprint with a 307 and buckets with console which I think I can get pretty cheap. a few questions for those that know.
1. production numbers on these cars? I can find literally no real figures for the sprint 307.
2. Common things to look for as far as problem areas?

Thanks

The car is rusty by rear tires and the trunk is pretty rough but its literally all there. Interior all there and pretty decent. It has 3 flat tires so it was hard to get under it to look at floor but what i could see didnt look too bad.

1. Sorry I don't have the specific number, but they are pretty rare, likely in the low hundreds if the later versions are any guide. However, since it's pretty much unknown to the mainstream car market, there's no real boost in value except to us Pontiac folks who can appreciate it for what it is (would like to hear from others if situation has changed). Buckets and console if original are a nice plus. Sounds like a nice find and IMO would be worth saving (repro stripe kits are even available).
2. One weak link is the Chevy 307, known for problems with its plastic timing gear, plastics technology back then wasn't too advanced. Other than the usual GM rust-out areas (front fenders, wheel wells, corner of windshield), there weren't any other major built-in flaws or abnormalities that I've heard of. Very simple cars.

Underneath the back window is known for rusting out. But the good thing from the doors back it's just about all Nova parts which are available.

Well, it's a pretty neat old car and all original. I know the trunk pan is pretty much a loss and lower front fenders and around rear wheels rusted out as well.
As I said, it's all there though. Rallye 2 wheels and buckets with console with the orig engine as well. I'd hate to part it out or see it get scrapped.

Thanks for the info guys, I really know nothing about the venturas but ran across it and thought it was neat. It definately has potential.

So there are parts avail for this car on the aftermarket? I literally found nothing when I did a quick search.

Try classic industries for the rear panels stuff. If you decide to part it out i'll buy the sport mirrors, sport steering wheel and the front bumper.

Any chance to see some pics of the car? Curious to see the console, too.

You shouldn't have any issues finding mechanicals for the car, just look it up like a normal '72 (for example, try p-s-t.com). It's usually the front sheet metal that's the hangup, and that's just a waiting game for the parts to show up in ads or forums online... and they eventually do show up.

Sure would be nice to keep it intact

I think the Nova Repop stuff may be the same.

The 72 stuff is easier to find than the 73 is (speaking from experience). Also the folks on this site are tremendously helpful in finding parts (at least from my experience). As a matter of fact I have some parts I'm looking to sell left over from my recent body & paint resto. Also make sure to check out stevesnovasite.com I'm on both this and their forum as well. A fantastically awesome site http://rmcavoy.freeshell.org/tech_info.html see the 1962 - 1979 Nova parts interchange link!
Good Luck!

try B&R Old Car Parts in Ogden, Utah (801) 399-5203. They have at least 3 Venturas (2 74s and 1 73 as I recall). I believe they all have fenders, but I don't know about condition.
