Thats what I was getting at, bring idle speed down & make sure motor is not running hot.

Idle speed is too high in park or neutral....

Question

Keith, it's an automatic, temp is 180. To my understanding , by turning the idle speed screw counterclockwise, that will generally lower idle speed. Also, by turning the mixture screws counterclockwise , that will normally make the fuel mixture more rich, correct? I think it's back to the drawer board for the 10th time, to try to get this right.
I made the adjustments previously, and the car seem to run pretty good around town and on the highway, with no pinging etc. I just can't get the damm thing to turn off.
Cleaned the combustion chamber, etc with no results. The idle might be too high, but I got it to run well, until I wanted to shut if off.

You are correct on idle & fuel mix. I leave mine in gear when shutting it down. I give the throttle a little blip while in gear & then turn it off as idle is coming down. may not work with yours

so am I right in my assumptions, counterclockwise out on idle screw in back of carb to slow idle speed, and counterclockwise out on fuel mixture screws to richen up mixture ?

Yes,,,Note,,,mix screw only changes idle fuel air mix,,for a change in the cruise fuel air mix, a change of the internal jet is needed.

Mixture screws out(counterclockwise) to lean. Idle stop screw out to lower idle RPM

Question

So I purchased a Carter in line pump, drawing 5 amps tops. I have 12 guage wire, fuse holder, toggle switch (good idea). Do I really need a relay setup , when the pump is only pulling 5 amps, and I am using heavy guage wire?

That should be fine! put in a 10 amp fuse & run it!! No need for a relay with only 5 amp draw. 12 gage wire should be fine. What is the PSI rating on the pump??

Keith, pump is rated 4 to 5.5 psi. I thought that would be a good match.

As one who has recently been upside down in a vehicle, I'd again like to recommend a roll-over cut off switch.

Good idea Bill!! Sorry to hear about your truck!!! Ken,,,You can get one of these at just about any parts yard. Most newer Fords have them & they are usually mounted behind the passengers front kick panel. Has a couple of wires going to it with a red reset button. This will trip & shut off the fuel pump if you are in an accident or a rollover. If it trips from bumping a parking lot pole or something, you just push the red button to reset it. 4 to 5.5 should be fine.

Question

Keith, I followed your directions and installed my inline fuel pump. As far as a cut off switch, I bought a used inertia switch , from a 95 ford mustang product, Appears to have 2 leads and a large red reset button. . I assume you just splice it into the positive feed wire, and mount it level under the dash, correct? My understanding is that it will kill the fuel pump flow if I hit something, but how about a roll over ?

Yes, will work also for a roll over. The switch has a heavy pendulum that hangs down. Any sudden hard movement makes the pendulum move & cuts off the power. Just mount it level with the red button straight up.

Question

By button straight up, do you mean to mount the switch so the button is on top of switch, not looking out facing you, correct?

Pointing up, away from the floor board. Button on top of switch.

Use the better octane. Non oxy if posible. Use a can of " sea foam " Octane booster helps too. I still get it even with all this stuff. John
