According to the ebay listing, p/n 530001.

From the Ilustration of the '64 Console, the shifter lever opening cover spring is found in Gr. 4.027 (separate Gr. 4.027 for each trans, but this part only shows up in the 3 spd section, not the 4 spd section).

Under Gr. 4.027, p/n 530001 description is "1958-66 P/8 3 SPD.-S.T. SPRING, g/shift tube return"

I've looked at the big car illustrations, unfortunately they don't show an explosion for the Gearshift Tube Assembly, but it does have a spring on the lower end of it, I assume this is the serviceable p/n 530001 return spring.

There are a few parts pertaining to the '64 Tempest in this Gr. 4.027 that I can't figure out, they consist of a Stud, a Spring, and a Washer all having something to do with the floor shift lever mounting and locating. No idea what that is all about but doubt it is related to this topic.

Nothing in Gr. 4.027 pointing to the application of a Spring for the shift lever opening cover.

But not to despair.

In Gr. 10.240 where the Cover itself is found, lo and behold, I find this:

1964 20,21, 22 S.T. (4.027) SPRING, console mldg. shift lever opening cover

and the p/n is 530001.

The springs in the picture are physically different than the Spring that is pictured in post 8 that I got with my supposed original cover.

No way for me to know if mine is original, perhaps the service parts on ebay are a later issue of this spring with a different design but same p/n.

For all I know, the one I have may have been substituted when the original was lost and is just a "will fit" hardware store spring.

I'd judge the ebay ones to be "correct" service parts per the MPC.

Whether they are identical in appearance to what was installed at the factory in production, I have no idea.

And since the Cover design changed, even possible that the Spring specified for this was changed at the same time so perhaps there is also an early and late Spring.

Chad, wanna check to see if there was a p/n change for the Spring listed in Gr. 10.240 during '64??!!

Part number 0530001 superseded 9775934 on 11-1-1963. The parts history index doesn't specify a group or page number for the change though.

I'll bid on these and split them up at cost for whoever would want one (if I win). No sense in us bidding against each other to get one or two of them.

I need all 9 of them as my 9 64 GTO's are missing these springs. LOL!

I won't be bidding, but thought they were a very interesting item for consideration. GOOD LUCK!

I'm in for one if you decide to pull the trigger.

Just a thought, I counted the # of rotations on each spring.(using the same starting point) The first one shown, with the cover, has 11 and the ones in the envelope, have what I count as 7? I didn't study the guage difference, though. Seems to be two different springs, perhaps? Larry B.
