69 GTO Headlight Switch Issue Causing Wacky Gauges
Hello All,
69 RAIII GTO with Rally Gauges. All gauges work fine with headlights off but when I pull the headlight switch all the way out to activate headlights the gauges go a little wacky and do not show correctly. While driving, the dash lights also dim and go bright on and off depending on how rough the road is. If the headlight switch is pulled out to the first stage (side marker lights - no headlights) everything works okay. I've replaced the headlight switch but still the problem continues. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks!!

Probably need to look at the grounding of the gauges and switches under the dash. The flickering is caused by the connection being loose and is amplified when going over the bumps etc would be my guess.

Bad ground at either the dash or the headlamp(s) out on the core support. That or a partially fried or de-laminated printed circuit would be the first 2 places I would look.

Ditto on a bad ground.

Thanks guys for your responses back - I really do appreciate your spending
the time to help me out. I will now go and check all of the grounds first to make sure everything is okay and then also look at the printed circuit board. Best regards, Les
