Another question about 17" wheels
I've decided on US Mags bandit design. I've also decided on tires 235/50/17 on the front and 255/50/17 on the back. Now front wheels are a no brainer at 17" x 8" but the back wheels I'm not sure of . I am pretty sure 17" x 8" will work but I was wondering if I decided later to get 275/50/17 for the back, would I need to order new wheels(17"x 9") to make it look ok? Or order 17"x9" with my 255's? Any imput would be appreciated. I can take it.

Definitely buy 17X9" for the rear if you plan to use 275s. Tight fit, carefully measure to assure you get the correct backspacing both front and rear.

Thanks b-man. I think its 0 offset 4.5" for the 8" and 5.0" for the 9"

I would select your tire diameter, then width and then work backwords to the rim size.

The problem you are going to run into is that from what I can see, they only offer the wheels in a 0 offset. If that is the case, you will need to figure out where the wheel is going to sit and pick a tire from there. Not the right way to go about putting custom wheels on, but if it is your only option, you will have to do it that way.
Contact the seller and see if you can get backspacing to order Fun calculator for tire size http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

I run 275/40/17s on 2nd gen F cars in the rear on a 9" wide wheel with 0 offset. I would think the A cars would have at least the same amount of wheel well opening back there.

If the specs they list are identical to the 18" wheels, they are incorrect. My 18x9 rears are actually 5.25 for backspace. The side of the box also listed an offset spec and I do not remember it being 0. I can check on it if you likem but, but I would call to confirm before you order the wheels.

Well I just got done talking to Ron at Ronsrims on ebay about the bandit wheel. This is what he told me 17"x8" have 0 offset with 4.5 backspacing and the 17"x9" are a +6 with a 5.25 backspacing. He didn't want to talk about tire sizes due to every car is a little different. He explained how to measure for myself though. He also said that a 8" wide rim is actually 9" bead to bead and a 9" wide is 10" b to b. So what does 255 look like on a 17"x 9"? Does anyone have a pic I could see?
Thanks 63 & 67 George |

Just got home from work and guess what was on my steps. The 17"x8" has a +1mm offset and the 17"x9" have a +8mm offset. They look beautiful but I haven't got the lug nuts I was promised yet . Will try to get pics after dinner.

They look great!!! Are you able to check and see if you can make the PMD caps work with these?

The pmd center caps do not snap in . The US Mag opening is too big but the pmd cap does cover the opening so I guess you could fabricate something. The US Mag center is kept in place with a rubber o-ring. I like the mag centers and am going to use them. On a different note my lug nuts came today. They are typical short shank capped chrome nuts so I can probably use my original black center lug nuts.
Hope this helps 63, George |

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Maybe the antitheft type retainers would work? Who knows. Congrats on what appears to be a very solid purchase!!!

Does the PMD cap cover it evenly- not too much overhang, etc?
I'm agreeing w/ 63gpman- Maybe the anti-theft retainers will hold them in place? Any chance you could put the PMD cap on and take a couple different angle pix? Thanks!

Will do tommorrow. Hopefully the tire shop will have my tires so I can mount them on the wheels. It was pretty difficult finding the same brand and type in 235/50 and 255/50 for my tire guy.

Blue Goats,
Any luck on the photos? I was thinking(dangerous- lol) that if the US center cap is really secure, a person could drill a hole through the center so a retaining bolt could pass through. Then secure w/ a nylon lock nut- BAM!! PMD cap held securely.
