1933 Pontiac 2dr Sedan
Yesterday there was a carshow at the Elks Club half a mile away from my house. I always go to this one not only because it's free but because all monies donated and raised got to our Veterans. And it was their 50th Anniversary..... 1963 to 2013. Plus their trophies this year were pretty cool too.
So we're all standing around talking with the show's DJ, who happens for be Lou Costesllo from New Jersey's WVLT 92.1 FM station out of Vineland, NJ when in comes this gorgeous '1933 Pontiac sedan with a Pontiac Straight 8 and 3 on the floor. He even has the hand crank to start her up by hand if need be. How cool is that? Come to find out the new owner had bought it at an estate sale recently. The car had been restored from the ground up by the previous owner. She shows a bit of wear, but if it was perfect we wouldn't have seen it. The new owner isn't afraid to take the 'ol gal out for a spin or a show. This is the original radiator cap. The owner said he found one that was rechromed and for sale... price was $2000.00 firm. He passed on it. And one super quiet engine.... Weird side story... I made a donation to the Elks for the show and in return they gave me a bunch of tickets for the door prizes and 50/50 drawing. No I didn't win either with the tickets I had. But.... it turned out kind of cool with the door prize tickets. All tickets started with 666.... that's why I didn't win anything. LOL But the last three numbers were the kicker. I had 389, 390, 421, 426, and 427. The 427 ticket I gave to a guy with a 66 427 Corvette, and he said he was taping it on his trophy. Now how weird is it to get tickets like that? And last of all the cool trophies 19 of us received.....

Yer right, it's 3 on the floor. My error and the photo shows it. Now edited and corrected. Thanks for picking up on my goof up.

Great to see someone hasn't street rodded a nice car! All 33-34 Pontiac's are straight eight's and they, like most if not all GM products for those two years get the swept back "BENTLEY " style grille. That "NEW" for 33 straight eight design architecture would power Pontiac's to 1954. A super smooth engine that when equipped with a Hydra-Matic 1948-1954 would idle in drive at 450 rpm and so quiet you couldn't hear it running, which was a design attribute or virtue for engines for many high end cars of those days to shoot for.
As your photos show, Pontiac did not have three on the tree in those years. Your picture shows the floor shifter common to those years of Pontiac. Thanks for posting a great car! |

That's what everyone at the show said. Even the guys with other makes than Pontiac. They were all impressed. My thought, and the same for some others too, was it should have taken Best of Show.

Beautiful car. Thanks for sharing. Love the color combo including the wheel color....and how many times I have wished that my starter was that accessible!
Oh...by the way Gary, that car next to it is on fire.

Luv the Indian head cast into the block. A local guy has a '34? maybe, I'll dig out the pix. It's equally as cool.

Thxs for sharing these pics of this mint '33 Pontiac. I don't recall seeing the "Pontiac" hood emblem before. I'd imagine that's uber rare, nearing unobtainium these days.
Also cool to see the Pontiac logo figure cast into the engine head... |

Way back when (maybe 1960?) a friend bought a '34 Pontiac from a local junkyard- we called it the Elliot Ness car (all black 4-door sedan, like in "The Untouchables" show)! I helped him get it running, and thought the starter system was neat. Instead of a foot-stomp type or a pushbutton to activate a starter relay, the driver simply pushed the throttle to the floor to crank the engine. A manifold-vacuum switch in the circuit disabled the starter whenever the engine was running. I think the '33 also had it, but can't see for sure in the engine picture posted here.

Very nice....great to see that out and driving around.
I love those straight 8 and straight 6 Pontiacs...so smooth, plenty of torque.

Greg, that car next to it wasn't burning as much seeing the weather was on the crappy side. LOL
BB66, go ahead and post it here if you want. Alvin, he did find one that had been rechromed.... 2000 bucks and passed on it. He wanted one for a spare just in case. Jack, I asked him if he had the crank and he does. This engine is so quiet you can just barely hear it purring away. I wonder if you had to use the crank if you could tell you go it started. LOL

My dad has an all original '33 Pontiac 2dr sedan sitting in his garage. He's owned it for well over 30 years... sadly it hasn't moved in 20 (it was prone to vapor lock and he stopped driving it) and at the age of 73 it's highly unlikely he will ever do anything with it (even though I periodically try to guilt him into restoring it or selling it so that someone else can restore it).
Thanks for the pics and it brings back a lot of memories of riding around to car shows in ours when I was a kid. Scott

Now that is a relic from an era you don't see too often anymore. Cars were definitely a different class back then. Very cool, even more so considering it hasn't been chopped & lowered with a 350 SBC stuffed under the hood ;-)

Yes...take another look at the OP car, and remember that Pontiac hood emblem goes for $2,000 IF you can find one!
Thanks again for the enjoyable Pontiac post. |

HONOR THE OLDIES
Seeing any pre-war at a show anymore is becoming very rare.
So like you when they do I'm all over them. I take lots of shots as I know I may never get the opportunity again. Thanks for sharing. Below is a '34 that drove into the local Fall Classic last year...
