This has probably been asked a million times before but I couldn't find what I was looking for with the search function.. and as I'm new to Pontiacs so sorry for the silly question..
The distributor and the way the plug leads are setup is just like this: ![]() But I've also found this image which is slightly different. ![]() My qquestions is which one is the correct one (for me)? (My engine is 67 400 block with 71 heads by the way and it has a mallory unilite distributor) thanks,

With a Mallory Unilite either one is correct. The lower picture is a points type distributor.
The protrusion at the #6 plug wire indicates the window to adjust the points. The position of the points type distributor is important to permit access to the window to adjust the points.

The wires were route cleaner if you use the bottom diagram.

This was my experience too after trying both methods.

Any terminal on the cap can be used as the #1 terminal, just so long as the rest are in the proper firing order (and direction,ie: counter-clockwise),so both diagrams are "correct".
But as you can see by the comments here, there are other considerations to keep in mind, and everyone has their prefered way of doing this. Just remember to try and keep the #5 & #7 plug wires seperate from each other to avoid crossfire issues. Lotta people like to have #1 plug wire pointing @ the 1 o'clock position as it's easier to remember which terminal is #1. Bret P. |
