Default Idiot lights etc not working

I have a slight problem with the idiot lights and fuel gauge in my 1969 firebird convertible.
The temp sensor light works when the ign is on and goes out as soon as the engine runs but the fuel gauge reads permanently full and both oil pressure and Gen light don't work at all. Have I got a +12v or a ground wire on the gauge pod that shouldn't be there?

Sounds like a ground problem. Have you replaced the bulbs? The ends of the bulbs wear from passing electric current over a period of time. Also while you have the bulbs out check for power to the socket. you can even check the temp lite by turning starter over. There is a ground wire bolted to the steering column mount that grounds to the gauge cluster Sand the wire terminal and the spot where it is bolted to. I cant remember if there is a 2nd ground wire but check near the bottom of the radio also. The ground wires is probably you problem but..... If that doesnt fix the gas gage try cleaning the ground at the tank. There is also a ground that grounds the motor to the firewall located at the back of the left cylinder and then another ground from the right inner fender well to the frame near the battery that could cause you problems. Too many people removed the ground on the frame and back of the motor.
