And here's the plant...
Pics of the engine below...
Larry, you bet! The ST300 seems OK, although it does tend to hang in low pretty late...later than I remember in the '64 Special I drove in the '90s. John, I will respond to your other questions this weekend...I am amid a hectic week. |

Gotta love that vintage linkage assembly and the transmisson kickdown switch location!

Sunfire Red? Convice me
After more than a year and a half, we're finally getting some where. The color is starting to grow on me.

I do, sort of. I took those pics. Totally unrestored car. Currently owned here in Columbus, Ohio by a collector. His first name is Dick, can't remember his last name. I usually see it at least once a year at something local. Car was previously owned by a guy named Sam who also lives here. Before that, a club member named Sonny. That car has had several good caretakers. It's stunning and I'd love to have it. It can never be restored, only preserved.

"Thank You" for taking that set of 64 photos which you posted a while ago, as I added them to my files on Survivor cars. That 64 has all the Good Stuff, especially Original Paint in (Sunfire Red)! I hope all the owners "Preserve" it and leave it as Original as possible. Do you know the mileage?? Thanks for sharing. Chris.

PRICELESS.
I couldn't enlarge that pic clear enough as you did.
Yes, the condition of this 64 seems to match a well preserved 50k+ mile car. Thanks for that!

Yes that car is beautiful and I wouldn't mind taking a shot at being the next owner either. Finders fee to anyone that can assist. Thanks.

To bring the data back to the top, and to add the 06A Sunfire Red convertible currently on ebay and noted in another post, here is what I have so far:
10B (plant unknown) 10C (Fremont) 10E (Pontiac) 11B (Pontiac) 11C (Pontiac) 12A (Fremont) 1/7/64 (South Gate) 2A (Fremont) 02A Kansas City) 02B (Kansas City) 2/20/64 (Pontiac) 3/25/64 (Pontiac) 4B (Fremont) 04C (Pontiac) 5B (Fremont) 06A (Pontiac) 06B (Pontiac) 06C (Kansas City) 7/6/64 (Fremont) 7/20/64 (Baltimore) Still lots of holes but there is a fairly large range of weeks represented, still seems unlikely that there was ever a prohibition on Sunfire Red during the '64 Model Year. Terry, glad to hear the Sunfire Red is growing on you. I really think you made the right choice. My own Pinehurst Green GTO has been painted now and although it would never have been my preference, I think it looks awesome now that I have seen it in the flesh. Can you imagine being at a show and having a '64 represented in all 15 standard factory colors? Toss in a few special order colors and I think I would love to see the entire collection. |

John, I have another Sunfire car for you. Per the PHS on a '64 GP I used to own, the production date was 3/10/64 at the Pontiac plant.
BTW, I think Pinehurst is a great color and the fact that it is seldom seen makes me like it even more. |

Found another Sunfire Red '64 Pontiac but not a new week, 04C from Kansas City. Lots of others seen around the web but none posting Data Plate or PHS info.

Rich, yours was already logged, I have a copy of your PHS in my file. Next to last on the list.
G.T.O.boy, not sure if yours is the same GTO as the one already logged as a 2A Fremont build? 2/3/64 is the Date Produced on the PHS document? After you confirm, next chance I get I can change the 2A to the actual Date Produced on the list. Looks like the data collection petered out though so I'm not sure the hypothesis was proven yet. |
