th200.swap to th350 question
Have a th200with pontiac 301 mild.cam.bord over60 run strong for a.small.engine.im going.to have.a.th350/put in wil thear be any accel difference or better mpg

The TB 350 weighs a bit more than the 200 trans that was born in 1973 and thats why its stronger than the 200, the gear ratio`s are just about the same for the first two gears, thats about it!

Yes, other than the th350 being more durable, you won't notice a difference in acceleration or mileage.

What stall.should i use on the new converter. Current stall is not known. Is the third gear ratio the same

Yes, 1:1. All transmissions have a 1:1 high gear ratio unless it's an overdrive.

The 2004R has a 2.75 first gear. The 2004r is derived from the 200. Is the 200 a different first gear than the 2004R? The TH350 is a 2.52 first.

i think he means he has a th200 metric three speed trans, not the th200r4 overdrive..stall speed? possibly a tad over stock, or a stock one for a mild 301...2200 rpm maybe?

Yes trans is 200 metric thats why i.was asking the differnce between them

well the main difference between the 200 metric and the th200r4 is that the th200r4 is an overdrive transmission...and the case is physically longer than the 200 metric. you can install a th200r4 in your car, but you will need to modify your crossmember and shorten your driveshaft to accomodate it. it also has a tv cable and electronic converter lockup on them--they can be modified to remove the tcc, but the tv cable needs to be adjusted correctly.

If both transmissions are in good working condition, the 200 will feel snappier/more responsive and quicker accelerating from a stop. Its lighter, has a getter gear spread and less rotating mass. If you aren't going hog wild with your engine, the 200 isn't (these days) a bad thing to keep in there as they have been sorted out by a few places who specialize in racing them (quite successfully). On the other hand, if you have a good 350 already it makes sense to just go that route as they are pretty tough units for their size.

Trans is the 200 metric not the 200r4. But ty for the info
