1970 T/A jacks
I have looked in the assembly book and it clearly shows 3 different styles of bumper jacks. I am not 100% positive on the correct ones, i am posting 2 different styles that are from 70 model yr.
The light blue one is from a Norwood t/a with ralley spare The dark blue is from a van nuys. I'm not sure if its correct for a space saver or full size. I ask because i have 2 70 Van Nuys built cars here, 1 with a full size spare and one with a space saver, and they both had the dark blue style in the trunk. Whats correct ?? And does anyone have a picture of the 3rd style ? If it does exsist ?? |

I can tell you with a high level of certainty that the lighter blue one is what my '73 Rally T/A uses.

i guess the "Y" style is the other type of jack.
but, I see no discussion of the "type" of spare tires that came with these jacks ? |

Spares....
Trans ams had 15 x 7" Rally's with F60 x 15 RWL Goodyears.....
MOST Formula 400's came with 14 x 7 steelies OR Rally II's with F70 x 14 RWL Goodyears....... Esprit's & base birds came with E78 x 14 dual stripe whitewalls... UNLESS a stowaway spare was ordered...

ok, thanks. But, which jack is correct for the spare tires ??
Here are attatched pics from the assembly books. Look how the base's have the part number of the what i assume to be the jack next to them. In the 70 book they match up with the jack numbers, but after 70 they don't match what the jack numbers are. |

I don't think they had a diff jack for spacesaver... The LS1 van nuys here, has it's orig spacesaver. The jack I got for it in cali, is the dark blue one you pictured.
If they used 2 diff jacks for van nuys cars, please let me know... thnx Quote:

How long should the jack posts be for each style of 70 jack? I assume Camaros used the same but for an extra hook. The Camaro guys say the jacks were 32 1/2" until around June of 70, then went to 34 1/4

71's used the silver painted "Y" style shaft,1970 VN's used the silver cadmium plated square shaft and the 1970 Norwood cars used the gold cadmium plated almost a teardrop shape shaft. ALL 3 used different shades of blue and the VN lug wrenches have a "W" on them and have a noticeable different bend on the handle. The 71 lug wrenches I have seen are painted grey while 70 VN or N seem to be painted blue.

Thats why said my 70 has a "Y" in the trunk...I don't know if it was put in there in Norwood Ohio or Evergreen park Illlinois. But I do know it was in there in 1975 along with the original spare. LOL

Craig.. who knows.. we now know anything I say is maliciously planted as false info.. So if I said Norwood plant cars had the gold plated jack and yours has the Y, well that is proof again I am full of sh!t..Ask 68 bird, he surely knows the answers..
Oh.. and my disclosure: I do not mean to offend anyone personally or professionally, This is my opinion only, I do not know anything about cars(actually I drive a moped) and.... of yea.. did I say I know nothing about Firebirds, nothing at all .. Craig, you know this is not directed at you. you have a thick skin and have known for a long time I am full of sh!t |
