Default Drinking and Driving.

With the holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience
with my family & friends about drinking and driving. As you may know
some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from
time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends.
Well, three days ago I was out for an evening with friends and had
several cocktails, followed by some rather nice red wine. Feeling jolly
I still had the sense to know that I may be over the limit. That's when
I did something that I've never done before ... I took a cab home!
Sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it
was a cab they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident.
This was a real relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab
before. I don't even know where I got it and now that it's in my garage
I don't know what to do with it!!!

Smart move on your part. A guy I work with(not a big drinker) was at a cook out this summer, had a "few" and drove 5 block to get home. 4 blocks away was the check point, about $4200 or more He got his license back but still has insurance to deal with. That said it's not the money but the devastating damage to a family if someone is hurt or killed by a drunk driver. THANKS FOR TAKING THE CAB.

My BIL, who has a felony drug conviction and DUI after flipping his leased Jaguar nearly killing himself and his wife, gambles his freedom several times week boozing it up and driving.

Be very careful out there.

Drinking and driving is bad news, always has been. But what I'm seeing now is inattentive drivers: texting, on the i pod or smart phone, whatever. Driving their car is not their primary concern. I've been personally run into on my motorcycle twice over the years by inattentive drivers (both times I was stopped at an intersection). In my youth, I had a few close calls with bad judgement, but happened to be very lucky. For the past 20 years, with a CDL, my DUI limit is .04, and there is no chance of traffic school, so I just plain haven't done it. Lose my license, I lose my job. My brother got a DUI in CA in '07 and it was over 10k in fines and that was just the beginning of his problems. No thanks! (I wonder how a '65 GTO would look with some of that chrome yellow vehicle wrap and a 'Yellow Cab' marker on the roof, though?)

Want to get an idea how many people drink and drive? Go for a walk down any street and you'll see nip bottlles, beer cans, and even small wine bottles on the ground.

I gave up the drinking and driving before things got to where they are now with the law. My commercial license was my livelyhood. I admit I pulled a couple of dumbassed moves years ago but thankfully no one was involved but me. Driving home a couple of times ... alone... and next morning couldn't remember how I got home.

Since then I either rode with someone, or I was the designated driver for them. These days I don't even drink unless I have a "bloodclot" my neighbor. Two house walk home and then answer to the Warden.

I pickup cans on the side of the road pretty frequently. Lots of beer cans and bottles! I doubt they are the majority of those cast out, but in this state it's not illegal to drink and ride in a car so some of those are probably passengers throwing them out. Most are probably drivers drinking too.

I have absolutely no tolerance for people who drive drunk. My wife was hit by a drunk, illegal and uninsured driver a few years back. Totaled the car, put her my daughter and grandson in the hospital. My wife suffered permanent damage-he went back to Mexico.
Drunk driving can have serious ramifications-don't do it!

Delaware took the 5 cent deposite refund away from us a couple of years ago. The State confiscatated all the monies the stores collect. So it isn't worth picking up can or bottles. Well you could take the cans to a scrap yard but it's still a PITA to store em until you get enough weight. Glass bottles for beer just get thrown in the recycle bins..... no refund there either.

While I don't condone drinking and driving nor do I participate in it any longer, I think the OP was very well executed and it made me laugh.

In my 20's though, it was a different story.

Here's the result of a long night of drinking at the bar(s) and falling asleep while driving home. This was in '90 or '91. Car was a 1977 LeMans Sport Coupe. Ran into a parked car (truck actually) on the side of the road. No one was in it and amazingly I was not hurt.

I'm not proud of this but maybe the pics will make someone think twice or at least be interesting

Just to clarify, this didn't actually happen to me. It was sent to me by a friend and I decided to share after I cleaned the coffee off my keyboard and computer screen.
