Yeah, I thought that just after I hit "Post". But I bet there are not many with both 4's and 8's.But if they are out there, I hope they chime in and show their garage/shops. I like Pontiac eye candy, I can never get enough.
(Bet they don't have a Cat gasser though. LOL. Mark L

You're right, I thought of that just after I hit "post". Probably not many with both 4's and 8's though. Bet they don't have a Catalina Gasser to go with their stuff. Pretty sure most would not want one, LOL.

Wow, did something wrong. Thought I lost the first reply but it somehow came up. Goofy computer or most likely operator error, naw, couldn't be, ha!
I had someone ask me what I thought a 1st Gen Firebird would look like as a Gasser. I couldn't remember ever seeing one built that way so I dug out a '68 'Bird model and thru together a quick shadow example of a Gasser '68. Takes a little imagination but I think it could really look good when done. Soooo. I guess I need to build the model. Mark L

I know not every one will agree, but like the JEEP saying on their windshields------
"It's a Gasser Thing". LOL. Mark L

Wow...flashback!!!
One of the big influences of my fondness for 1st gen birds was from a 67 (built around 68) bird convertible with a straight axle and Indy car type tires out back(this was shortly before the wide L60 or N50 tires appeared from M/T). I was 15...and drooled for that car to appear... I never knew till some 20+ years later the car lived a block away and belonged to a classmates older brother... |

I just got my up pipes built and all tacked together. Will take them to get the welding finished hopefully tomorrow.
These will attach to the 180's off of the headers. The up pipes and the new turbo mounts will lock everything in nice and tight. I'll get more pics once they are welded, in place, and the turbos are all installed. Mark L

Mark, referring to your pic above, why do turbocharged engines have the metal fabric sections in their exhaust while N/A engines do not?

The pipes are at the welders "Getting 'er Done". He's pretty busy so I may not see them until Tuesday.
Hey Matt. It is not always necessary but it usually comes down to the high heat causing the metal growth of the equipment and any vibration between two or more solidly mounted parts. The high heat grows the metal parts so much they can break themselves, welds and even studs. My pipes do enough curving around and angles that growth would probably not be a problem. I'm using it mostly for the vibration aspect. My motor and turbos are all solidly mounted so the flex pipes will take some stress off of the pipeing and mounts. I've seen solid header flanges that will shear off a stud if the flanges are not cut between the ports. The vibrations from a solidly mounted turbo and motor to chassis can heighten the vibrations enough to break things. Plus the higher heat can "anneal"--if that is the correct term--increasing the likely hood of breaking. Mark L

I have a question. Does any one make a bolt on super charger like say a whipple charger that bolts right on in place of the intake manifold for Pontiac like the ones for the LS1 engines. I would love to have that extra power that I could bolt right on top & be able to close the hood to without a big blower hat sticking up through the hood. Or does some one make a manifold to be able to use the LS1 style unit on our Pontiac engine. ???

No one makes a traditional Pontiac intake manifold that either incorporates the blower in the casting or even specially designed to bolt one on to. You can always have a sheet style specially built to use one but that is ubber expensive. There are a couple of people casting 6/71 type roots blower manifolds for Pontiacs and you might be able to adapt one of the blowers you mentioned to it. That is probably a more cost effective solution. Vin63 can adapt a 6/71-10/71 roots blower to Wenzler tunnel rams but then they get up pretty high. I hope someone else that may know of any manifold/blower set ups that would do what you want can chime in here.
For years people have cut and modified Offenhauser duel four barrel intakes to run blowers on. That could be a possibility and it would allow a low installation. Mark L

And, as far as I know, it's the only "production" blower manifold made for Pontiacs anymore. A lot of guys have adapted them for various set-ups (Steve Barcak, for one). I looked long and hard at them and decided to go with one of Vin63's custom set-ups. They (the BDS manifolds) are very low profile. The air goes uphill to the heads.

Jim. When you get a chance, can you post a pic here of your manifold and one of the manifold and blower? I talked to Vinnie a while ago about those but could not swing getting one. He uses the GutsRam if I'm not mistaken.

Here ya go. Vince made these by welding tops to Wenzler Gutsram intakes. This particular top was set up for a Littlefield mini-retro 10-71 blower case. I like it especially because it fits my Wenzler Super Chief heads so well (we'll be port-matching it). I don't have all the details because I bought it used from a PY board member, not from Vince.

Thank you for those pics Jim. Exactly what I needed to see. If you get a chance would it be possible to get a measurement for me? I need the height of the blower, including the mounting plate. I have the Gutsram base I can measure off of to see what kind of interference I would have if I were to bolt on that set up ,with a 6-71, in my firewall cut back. Thanks Jim.

I'm in the mountains of NM right now. I'll check those measurements when I get back.
By the way, here's a link to some different views of the BDS Pontiac blower intake on the RBS Superchargers site: http://www.rbssuperchargers.com/Prod...-0036&pID=6021 It's very low.
