I think if Paul was still with us he would have changed his mind about them by now. His resto guide was almost 20 years ago now for the first print. But with him gone now it's a mute point. But without a doubt everyone knows which car is my choice. But I stand with my thoughts, the 73 & 74 are the GTO's that all forget including the industry when it comes to parts, but it's slowly changing because there starting to see there are a lot of us out here that love these models......

Funny how you don't want the 73-74's lumped together but yet you always do. You can see why I did the poll in the same manor.

You must not have read the post as I did state that the 73-4 cars were COMPLETELY different models. I'm not putting them in the same category.I made that very clear. I may have typed them in the same sentence but I didn't say there were the same as your post made it look. So for your clarification the 73 GTO & 74 GTO are not the same models & should be listed as such. Does that look better to you. I'm sure no one else took it that way.

Heres a nice article on the '73 GTO at Hemmings. The aftermarket would be there if there were some demand, but with a 1-year design and a production run of 4,806, it's extremely limiting for the parts suppliers. Im sure parts are way more available than to guys restoring '50s Mopars!

I am not hating on the 73 I do like them, just not as much as other years. I would not go out looking to buy a 73 but if one found me, well that's a different story.

Gave my early issue of Zazzarine's Restoration Guide to local Pontiac club, that wa over 20 years ago. It just wouldn't cut it for working on '70 models, serious detailing... next to nothing. There was also no '71 or '72 coverage in the early addition, & when the expanded addition came out, guess it might have been of help if one was building a driver '71 or '72.

One of many "best liked" Polls from the Ultimate GTO Site (this one from 05) showing a 1000 polled results.
Dozens of polls....looks close on a few like 69 and 70. http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/pollp...eek=52&year=05 Poll Question #20 (from 2005): Which year of GTO is your favorite? 1000 responses collected 1964 6% 1965 13% 1966 11% 1967 20% 1968 9% 1969 19% 1970 13% 1971 3% 1972 2% 1973 1% 1974 1% 2004 3% 2005 0% |

Hey Rex be glad your not an 05 owner!
Wow 67 over the 66. Not in my book. Tri-power or not, hummmm and not to mention those 66 tail light a no brainer. The 67 grill does rule though.

I was surprised to see that too....the 67 ranked third. The GTOAA had one of these in "The Legend" one year based on membership "ownership" (iirc not "like") and 68 was waaay down near the bottom. I couldn't find it online, its in one of the magazine editions....maybe someone has it handy. Thought that was strange though. I had a 68 vert at the time and since it was the change over year, and Motor Trend Mag Car of The Year, with the new polymer front endura bumper....all that hype with the sledge hammer in the commercial and print ads.....thought the 68s would have been much more popular with members. Still comes down to who's responding I guess.... |

Do most people like the 68 tail lights in the bumper? I see/hear a lot of people say so. To me the 69 is better. It invokes a look of forward motion; aggressiveness . The 68 bumper looks like it dumped something in the back of it's pants.

Poncho, to me its the tail lights, dash, vent windows and front wrap around turn signals compared to the 69. 68 is my 2nd least favorite right in front of 74.
