Default Shop relaced rear tube yoke on driveshaft. Problem?

I had the driveshaft balanced and u-joints replaced at a driveshaft shop. They also replaced the rear tube yoke. This was up in St. Paul. I wonder if they might have cut off driveshaft yoke at the weld of the old one or just ground down the weld to remove the tube yoke. I hate to bug them. Anyone know the process they would use? If they just cut it off, the driveshaft is about 5/16" shorter, will that cause a problem? Thanks.

Jim- to find out which procedure they used, you will most likely have to ask them. I wouldn't think they would look at it as bugging them. You paid for a service which should cover an explanation of how they accomplished the task.

I called and yes they said I lost about 1/4" . They said that should not be a problem; but I wish they had told me that they cut the end when replacing the rear tube yoke.

It's a silly millimeter shorter. Just pickin on ya Jim.

If it fits ok and there's not a lot of end play or vibration, it will work fine.

Horseshoes and driveshaft length - close is okay. You will have more spline in the trans than someone that raised the rear of their car up a few inches. This is a pretty forgiving area.

The trans. seal wear mark from prior to being cut should show on the yoke how much shorter the shaft is now .

How much do you have that is going past the seal pull the shaft and look at the seal ring on the yolk should give you an idea where its riding 1/4 inch will not make any diff also will not affect balance they have to cut some material to get a straight weld I used to work for a driveline co was common practice to cut end to square it off for a straight weld.
