Default Coil spring questions-

Will be reinstalling the springs in a couple of weeks and wanted to be ready.
What is the correct color for the springs for a 66 gto
Are spring isolators necessary or needed.
Which direction does the end of the spring point or does it matter on reinstall
Thanks Neil

there is no top and bottom to a front spring.

The main thing to be sure of is, that the end of the spring sits in the pocket of the lower A arm correctly. There is a spot for it to sit in.

When I install fronts, I get some chain and loosely wrap it around the frame and coil, just in case the 'Made in China' compressor fails.

maybe older gto springs are different, but there is definantly a top & bottom to 2nd gen firebird springs. the top is flattened a bit to sit squarely in the frame pocket, the botton is just a normal end that has to be positioned in the LCA correctly.

spring isolators are not required but they are supposed to dampen the ride a bit, energy suspension sells some poly upper isolators for pretty cheap.

Yep I just installed front springs on my 68 and there were very obvious top and bottoms. The bottom with the tail that fit into the depression on the lower control arm, and the top was flat. No insulators on the front of a 68, not sure about other years. You'll see when you get the lower control arm down that there is only one way the spring and go in and fit properly. The Pontiac Service Manual shows how they go in, absolute end of spring on bottom should be within a certain distance of the drain hole in the lower control arm spring pocket.
