Removal of horn button emblem
Does anyone have a good method to remove the emblem (that is metal) from the center of a 63 horn button? Need to get it re-chromed. I don't want to destroy it!

removal
Use a heat gun on the underside of the button to warm and soften the glue. A pick or needle can be slipped under the outside edge of the emblem to pull it away from the cap. On most of the emblems, the glue didn't cover 100% of the surface, so find a non glued area and start lifting from there. I have a button with the emblem removed that needs rechromed.

X2 on the heat gun. Try a thing knife blade like a cheap steak knife. Go very slow so that you do not crease the Pontiac label. Rechrome it, then use the thin double side tape to put it back in.

FYI - if you mess up that emblem, there is a repro available unfortunately it's red but it's better than nothing. The color is not factory correct, but it looks nice on a red steering wheel. It probably could be painted to look closer to original.
It's in the PY GTO catalog as an insert for the '64-66 spinner hubcaps.

Thanks all, going to try the heat gun method on one as I have a couple. I do have one that came off and not much glue on the back side. I'll post the results here.

SUCCESS !!!!! I used a mapp gas torch and heated the back side for about 25 seconds, then used a #11 x-acto blade to lift the emblem, it came right off. Hard part was getting the tip of the blade behind it, those emblems fit really snug. Not much glue on the back either. Thanks Jerry for the suggestion.
