Classic!

Quote:
Harrell hooked the beast and brought it to the boat. Then, his friend Audey Clark of Norman somehow wrestled it into the boat so a photo could be taken of Harrell holding up his catch, which isn’t recommended, by the way.

They can actually travel pretty fast. I came across one crossing the road here and he was stretching those legs way out and moving along at a pretty good clip unlike other species. He had easily crossed the 2 lane Hwy. by the time I got to him.

They are cool when you think about how long they have been around. I don't share the love for the critters tho. They devastate ponds, eating everything including ducklings etc.

I noticed that the guy in that article was cat-fishing in Oklahoma where 'noodling' or catfishing by letting the fish bite down on the hand, is common. I'm thinking that he's glad right now that he's not a 'noodler'...

The turtles up by our lake lay there eggs in the sand by the pier, if the other animals don't dig up the nests we get these little guys in the yard. Don't have to worry to much about losing any toes.

Remember when you could buy those at the five and dime store before the Salmonella warnings?

Probably the first species acquired by kids, painted turtle and some kind of newt.

Now they have a health warning on them....saying a few kids have died.

We found one in the yard when my son was about 3 or 4 years of age. We kept him as a pet for a few weeks until I finally had to rescue him (the turtle). My son didn't see much difference from his 'other toys' and played with him accordingly. I explained to him why it would be better if we took him to a local creek and set him free, which we did.

We have snapping turtles here in TN, as the Flint river is the southern boundary of our property. Always have to keep the dog away from them. They are not huge like most of the pics, but still could seriously hurt the dog if one very bit her.
