Default my first colonoscopy wed.

At age 65 I decided to finally get my first colonoscopy. the total procedure including the prep was so easy I wondered why I waited so long! Doc found 5 polyps and 2 measured 10 mm. Doc told me that it was good I got in when I did! Going to take a week to get results. I have to go back again in 3 months for another because I was not cleaned out enough. I did not eat anything for 18 hours before so next time I wii eat a little lighter a week before! My opinion to everyone is to get one! I had no symptoms at all!! fred

Fred: I'm the same age and had my second colonoscopy recently. The results were negative. The procedure can be a live saver !! Hopefully others will be inspired to have this procedure.

Hey, where else can you lose five pounds of weight by just sitting down (on the toilet)?

Man I had my first one a couple years ago in my early 40's since my late Mom was way too late diagnosed at ST4 colon cancer and she was 67 she only lived 2 weeks after discovery. For the first timers when you have that powwder stuff to mix in gatorade just slam the whole bottle and chug it down at once and wait but we ready for a fast response when the feeling hits ..HOLY COW and dont hit the rim just saying

Just do it for the drugs. They're good. You'll never know that you had a colonoscopy anyway.

I have had a total of 4, I know the Anesthesia works different on everybody, but it is well worth it, After it is over ,I feel like I have had 12 good hours of sleep ,almost worth it just for the relaxation factor and of course the peace of mind

The funniest part were the nurses in the recovery room having a contest pitting the patients against each other for the loudest and most sustained flatulence episode. You'd hear comments like: "You gonna let that guy beat you?" "Come on now, let 'em have it"

(They want you to get all the gas out of your system prior to them releasing you from the recovery room.)

It's nice to see they have a sense of humor dealing with this stuff every day.

Somehow, someway, after the Nationals Bowling Tournament, a his/hers appointment should/could/will occur or Jesus comes first. Yea, I figure Jesus will come again first regardless of my appointment choice.

Going in for my second colonoscopy on June 11. I had my first scope three years ago and found 3 polyps. One fairly large. Very simple procedure. If you are 50 or close to it and above, please have this done.

I WANT to have my first one this spring or summer but the staff at my doctor's office are giving me all kinds of grief.
They tried to tell me I couldn't go to the hospital where I wanted to have it done because they are in cahoots with the local hospital which is right next door.
I priced out each hospital in the 30 mile radius of where I live (I'm going to be paying out of pocket) and the one I found to be the most affordable is also a very reputable hosp, unlike the one next to my Dr office.
Anyway, I call my doc and ask for a referal, and they ask if I'm having symptoms, blah blah blah?... Well I guess being 55 and never yet had a colonoscopy, there's no rush
I had a scheduled anual chech-up scheduled for July, but I told them I'd like to get the ball rolling a little sooner, and they are more worried about keeping the doctors at the local hospital supplied with kick backs.

Sorry for the rant.

...have had several over the years

...I mix the powder with white grape juice and put it in the freezer to get it super cold, the colder the better...actually tastes great

...stock up on TP and a stack of magazines

...procedure is totally simple, start counting backwards at 100 and by the time you get to 99 you are awake and it's all over

Miralax prep may work also....its OTC and different prep, and "some" will allow this method.

Simply ask.

Info also online: Miralax Prep....just a different prep process.

What I did last time and was good to go.....

Time for a new doctor. Don't EVER put up with that.

I tried making it cold that for the last one. Major mistake. Hits your gut hard when it's cold.

Room temp for me.

I've had to do the clean out procedure 3 times over the last year. I had Moviprep (?) for one of them. Best of the 3, but none of them are a picnic in the park.

Just had my first a few weeks ago, at 55 had two polyps test negative so good for 5 years. Working in the heath care field I have seen lots of change in the equipment used in this procedure. Cidex was used to clean the scopes in the beginning, now we use a machine called a medivator that cleans and sterilizes the scope inside and out. The scopes are very clean with no reside left on them unlike the cidex. The newer scopes are HD and have the ablility to change light color to a mode called NBI which is a blue that helps to find cancer. If they use the CO2 regulator and gas instead of air you will have little to no gas afterwards, I had none and we have been using C02 which is absorbed by the body for years now. The scope alone without all the supporting equipment runs 18k and the life expectancy is about 3 years with heavy use. They have air and water channels a biopsy channel, video camera and light channel along with cables that control the bending end, very complex piece, fluid migrations into the electronics is the most costly, about 8k to fix.

I had no gas either. Now I know why.
