Thanks for confirming 778.
592 is like a Memo Code for the build operation
- Special Equipment - Special Paint - Special Operations - etc...

It has shown up on all 1965 3.90 Close Ratio cars (778) i can find BHC for.
I finally have eliminated all other variables - and it is tied to the Close Ratio Transmission.

I'm not sure why they needed a Memo - other than to make special alert to assembly line personnel to be sure NOT to use the Wide Ratio that was made specific for 3.90 spec cars.
As backwards as that seems.

Mine and 3 other 3x2 3.90 cars i have BHC for - were 779 Wide Ratio - and do not have the 592 code. Evidently , the 779 Wide Ratio was the default for the 3.90 cars in 1965.

3.55 and numerically lower were 78W Wide Ratio
John V. explained the details / differences between 77W and 779 Wide Ratios to us.

592 can apply to quite a few different things, but on cars like yours, it is about the Close Ratio Tranny.

Could you confirm the numbers in boxes 60 - 74 also ?
I would like to the breakdown list on the BHC , too blurry to be sure.

If you ever have time, give us a back history story on the car.
Most are staying mum and keeping low on the car waiting to drop their sniper bid at auction end.
i would too if i had any shiny coins

When my wife and I met, she had a '67 Cougar that had a similar Motor Trend Car of the Year decal in the quarter window. Never seen another one until this post.

What was unique about the '65 award is that it wasn't just for one model but the entire Pontiac line.

534 is the HD Fan - which is the Big 19" Notched Blade - 7 blade with Clutch
of the few thumbnail pics i could view on eBay - i saw that fan is still in place
So possibly it should have clear windshield.

703 = 701 Posi and 702 Special Order Gear/Axle (3.90)

Do you suppose the Power Brakes were added by dealer - or by an owner ?
Pretty easy conversion - i would have done it too.

The car has Power Brakes bolted up and the stainless trim is on the E. Brake, Brake and Accelerator pedals??

Also the brass ell fitting (vacuum source for PB) off the front throttle plate has the factory plug suggesting it "did not" come with PB originally??

Strange.

Thanks for attaching those Big Pics !
I can view pics on here - but not Pbucket site.
On eBay all i can view are the small thumbnails (first 3)

His BHC has 4 in box 50 = Tach & Gauges
Pwr Brakes would have made it 506

Someone did an upgrade (with some wisdom and knowledge).
is what i am thinking
they just missed the correct vacuum source by less than a foot

Car is FILTHY lol
no wonder bids are stagnant
damd old barn find persona over-riding the distinguished patina too hard

Power brakes were added by the previous owner. He drove the car some and didnt like manual brakes. He pulled it off a parts car. BTW the previous owner has an Iris Mist conv GTO. Its a mess with no engine or trans but its the real deal. I begged him to get PHS but he never did

I have absolutely no need for this car. But it would make a great bookend to my 65 tri power, automatic car as it is the same color. I'm not able to do a restoration anymore, so I don't know why I'm the high bidder right now! But no way will he take what I can afford to pay. I do hope it goes to a good home.

I thought HD notched fan came std. with tri-power without a/c.

According to order form: 701=posi, 708= performance axle,
therefore shouln't it be 709?

534 was required with 3.90 , not included.
All the 3.90 cars i have on file have 534

709 i guess is too easy to calculate from the Order Form. lol
All the 3.90 cars i have on file have 703
They wanted to make us work for it.

702 nor 703 is shown on the sales order form / equipment sheet.
But it is shown on Faktry Buildsheets

701 is Safe-T-Track
702 is SPECIAL ORDER AXLE
703 is SPECIAL ORDER AXLE with Safe-T-Track (or combo 701 and 702)
708 is PERFORMANCE AXLE

Different animals
708 is like a 3.36 std car being ordered with a 3.55 - for example

Here is Seymores 65 buildsheet to show the codes.
Might need to download and magnify to read it well enough.

Some of this stuff you have to use the order form and the buildsheet together to get it all correct.

Forgot how you worded that about fan.
3.55 and lower numerically - got the curved tip smaller clutch fan.
Smaller blades (still 7) with curved tips and smaller clutch.

3.90 got the Big Car style A/C fan and clutch - with the notches.
Or the same A/C fan as used on a GTO with A/C and metal fan shroud.

534 on Non-A/C GTO was extra $3.12 on window sticker.

Jerry - that's how I won my Grand Prix....

I put a bid in just to be a "playa" and it tripped the reserve.

I thought "...surely someone else will put another bid in on this car..."

Nope. That bid bought it.

Maybe that'll happen to you, too.

Doesn't look like it's gonna be me. I just put in the highest bid I could afford at this time and I was the high bidder for like 5 minutes before I was outbid. Seems there is a bidding war between two guys at this time. Maybe they are members here.

Didn't meet reserve @ $13,500. The high bidder had '0' feedback and had placed several bids, so he was evidently very interested. I noticed the front header panel was in the trunk and looked like it was bent up pretty bad. Didn't see any pics of the very front side of passenger fender, just wondering if there might be any damage there? Ram Air I look for a PM soon.

Right fender has some sort of damage as seen in this pic.

Considerable rust (lower fenders, quarters, windshield, trunk) that may be keeping the price down.

Still is a Very Cool 65 and deserves to be brought back to life!
