Default 64 valve covers

I picked up a pair of used '64 valve covers that I believe are original survivor level pieces. What is the easiest way to determine if they are originals or slightly used reproductions. Are they physically different in appearance. I should also note that they have not flash rusted or pimpled or flaked.

LOL, not holding out here! I have no idea about the repro part vs. original.

Maybe post pix of details so guys could compare with their known originals?

don't know if there the same . but thinking they are in this area

I noticed on the repro.set I bought for my 65. The center (flat) raised area that runs down the center of the cover is not the same. measure that!

For 1964

Andre:

Having an adversion to repro stuff, I kind of ignored your question. However, if these are slightly (?) used as you state, a couple of things to consider.
The originals used cork gaskets - are these still present.
The originals had blue engine overspray - is this still present? Most people, unless looking for the concours look, will not apply overspray to new covers. (Although I think someone on this forumn got dinged by POCI for this.)
The originals had what I call a flash chrome appearance, significantly duller than what you see today. I don't know how bright they make the repros.
You may want to find a pair (you could also use non-chromed covers) to compare construction, metal thickness, etc.
And if there is no difference, I guess you got originals! (Hard to believe with repros)

Yep, they did not like my overspray. Like I said before, if you want a perfect score, build it for the judges. Overspray stays!! "Bill"!

You tell em Bill!

I love that imperfect factory look with overspray on the lip of the covers.

Production line automobiles, NOT show cars is what the plants were building decades ago.

First pic is a 65 4BBL. Survivor with 39,000 miles and engine blue around the starter wire clip.

Other pics show the engine paint on a 65 valve cover and how it would build up and run down the backside of the starter wire clip. This was a difficult area to mask off hence the usual over spray.

No cork gaskets on these as they have been changed. I definitely see the "flash chrome" appearance that is duller than the reproduction. The chrome also seems "harder". The chrome just looks old and seems to be of a different process than reproduction chrome. I also got the original tripower water neck from the same person who told me these were original. Thanks for the input.
