Default Vin decode

I looked at vin tag today on a 1964 Catalina the numbers matched the title but the letter for the assembly plants were different The car had an L and the title had a K But for 1964 I can't find either letter being used for a assembly plant. anyone ever run in to this ? This is what I found for 1964 the 4th digit - Assembly plant -
B = Baltimore, MD
D = Doraville, GA
E = Linden, NJ
F = Fremont, CA
G = Framingham, MA
M = Kansas City, MO
P = Pontiac, MI
R = Arlington, TX
S = Southgate, CA
U = Lordstown, OH
X = Kansas City

Don't know about 1964, but in 1961 K was Kansas City and L was Linden.

In either case it sounds like a typo (mis-struck key). I would favor the VIN on the car being correct and the title being a typo.

One could verify that by checking the VIN on the engine or trans (if original) or on the frame.

Default Vin Decode

The G M Leeds plant in Kansas City Missouri used the M in 64 on my 64 GTO VIN and the G M Fairfax plant in Kansas City Kansas might have used a K on the big cars. I will look at my sons old 64 Grand Prix VIN number cuz I think it was a Fairfax car.

I checked the title work on my sons 64 Grand Prix which was built at the Fairfax K.C. Kansas big car plant and they used K in the vin. My 64 GTO was built at K.C. Mo. and uses M in the vin. In Zazarine's old GTO recogintion book he said the K.C. Mo. Leeds plant started using K in their VIN's in 65. Does that sound right?
